We are on our first holiday in GC and have to say we love it and will be coming back. But if your staying in a 4star hotel, guys pack a pair of trousers for evening meal. I'm a bit of a mong and slope about all day in shorts,trunks, nothing!! Imagine my horror when heading for my tea to find my bare legs were about to cause the onset of malnutrition. Managed to buy a pair in the Cita Center for €6 (obviously there hideous and it's doubtful if they will make the flight home).

We've got the same issue in our hotel, but why are women allowed to wear shorts for evening meal sexual equality I say, or I could wear a dress would they tell me to put trousers on then um I wonder lol. |

I spoke to the rep ( who is an arrogant knob). My point being that somewhere when I booked it should have made clear that the hotel has a dress policy at evening meal. I don't have any issue with the dress code, but it would have saved some grief if I'd known in advance. |

It's the same with all the Riu hotels apparently. But have since heard others have the same policy. Jeans will do as long as males have their legs covered. Bit daft as you can wear a t shirt. |

Back inarch I kicked up one holy row with the hotel we were in, I was passed from front desk to duty manager and then someone laughingly called customer relations who's offer of a pair of waiters trousers was quickly refused. Same point as others have made there was never a mention anywhere before we got there about long trousers, my three quarter pants cost me over £50 yet women with very little to hide their modesty just breezed in, funny how last night there a guy told me that 3 Germans had walked in without a problem in shorts and flipflops..needles to say we ate out every evening losing our all inclusive Thomas

Not long back from GC. We stayed in a 4Star hotel too. There was a dress policy also. Men had to wear trousers that covered the knee. So 3/4 trousers were ok. I did wear shorts which just reached my knees and no one said anything.
We did know about this prior to arriving there. |

most hotels we have stayed at in gran canaria have this policy
Just wear lightweight ones as long as your legs are covered
I totally disagree with it to as its so warm for guys to have to change from daily shorts into long trousers in that heat.....so wrong |

Lol at the Poppy's!
If you have to wear trousers then there should be a law against some the outrageous things some of our mainland European cousins are wearing. Bright orange trousers with a baby blue shirt is not a good look. |

"easy answer, go self catering. We came back last weekend after 2 weeks and ate out every night. Lets you choose your restaurant and food is much better"
That's our intention for next time. Would you reccomend anywhere? |

we stayed in Carona Roja and although it was a 10 minute stroll to Kasbah centre it was great. Padabam restaurant was probably best we had and indian on 2nd floor in Yumbo centre was excellent |

thanks for the tip, we are self catering as we like to choose where to go and we have some good new friends to advise us lol, I would just like to say I would rather see a womans pair of legs than a mans anytime lol |
