Yes. No established scene or bars on the island so it's a case of checking out the 'who's near' on here, or some of the European equivalents (remember that Madeira is a very international destination for tourism).

We've always found people to play with, but it does take patience. Madeira certainly wouldn't be our first choice for a non-vanilla holiday, but it is bloody wonderful in all other respects.

Agreed, it's a gorgeous place to stay.
