Covid-permitting, we're staying at the Onyx in a couple of weeks' time.
Looking for recommendations for spots to head to should the mood take us. Are there any adult-themed places that let people in for the day/evening? Any nudist or play beaches that we can access?

Depends how brave you are… and are you looking to pay?
Boca chica is about a 90 min drive away - if it takes your fancy try staying there for a couple of nights and there are many bars and ladies who would enjoy your company. I would suggest the weekend - nice beach / bars / restaurants.
Happy if you want to pm for hotel recommendations.
More locally to you - you may want to use a cabana for a few hours of fun…
