A few of you have been to Temptations in Mexico and we are going next month.
Is it true that you have to tip the bar staff $10 a day for your all inclusive drinks?
Along with anyone else who looks Mexican
Is is just the yanks? |

Just bear in mind that Mexicans get paid next to nothing to work and rely on tips to survive.
The culture came about because of the American influx (American bar staff get paid a pittance too - albeit not as little as Mexicans).
Tip your favourite waiter, barman and your maid and life will be good. Being European and just expecting that they are earning a minimum wage is just not right - but make your own choices when you get there,
Mexicans in many places literally work for nothing and hope for tips - just watch how hard they work - in expectation! |

You need to know both conversion rates as you are in Mexico
20 pesos is about one pound.
We found it better and easier to have the peso.
The yanks live in a tipping culture we don't.
Just tip when you want and to who you want and not every time |

We were there last year so this is what we did.
Tip the maid every day, left her about £2 per day, £5 on last and we never had any issues at all, and nothing taken!
If by pool for the day then first drink gave the waiter a £5 tip, he remembers you for the rest of the day, and occassionally would give another £1 especially if asked him to make some interesting cocktails.
In evening at main bar always tip them! One english guy while I was there (and behind him) when he saw me with my money out said there was no need as all inclusive. Just then the barman having seen me approach handed over our usual drinks! I smiled at the guy, handed over my tip, and said "thats why I had my money out" and of I walked and he was still there!
But with everything if you think the service is good tip them |

I think I may take shoes trousers and a shirt just in case
Only going for a week so...
Maid £2 x 7 = £14
Pool bar £5 x 7 = £35
Night bar £5 x 7 = £35
Misc waiters £16
Total = £100
This sound about right? |

we find dollars are best for tipping, $2 about £1.50 every now and then when get drink gets you served in the crowd.. and tip around 5-10 in the speciality resturants, you will see why when you eat there. and $2 a day for maids.. dollar is king in Cancun.. |

We give the maid $20 on the first day, each bar $5 but tip throughout the night. Our waiter gets $2 at every meal and possibly a lump sum at the end of our trip. Can't wait to get back there end of April |

The staff are great,, always worth a tip, if you dont tip , no problem,, but obviously they fall over themselves if you do as they earn such crap wages. We use dollars, dont forget you cant take mexican money out of the country, and the dollar is king. Always handy off loading mexican notes and cash as tips towards the end of your holiday. Also you may find you pay in dollars and get change in mexican. |
