Yes we find it very difficult. Despite being retired we can't do short notice and certain times are out for us too. We had to cancel a meet recently too due to ill health.

Yes!!!! Same!!! Spontaneous works best for me. Planning can be frustrating for this reason. Love it when a plan just falls together easily! I find it easier to meet immediately rather than plan ahead. |

I've been in conversation with a couple for months now and although I've met for a social we haven't been able to arrange a playing meet as yet.

I find it a nightmare!
I live 50 miles from Newcastle, so I post meet dates in advance so I can make arrangements to stay in a hotel if I need to.
Pinning people down to results in them contacting me on the day saying let's meet in an hour's time.
Takes me 2 hours to get ready let alone travel,

Very much so.
Aside from the fact we don't live together, we live a few hours drive apart which means there's no last minute stuff unless we're together at the time which can go from a few days at a time a couple of times a month to once in a few months.
We both work and neither of us really know what we're working until last minute kind da thing. B can get a call and need to be in another country the next day for a few days or weeks, and I get my rota up to 2 weeks in advance but more often than not it changes anyway.
The only time we can guarantee we can make it is if we both have holiday booked at the same time, but even then you're governed by illness etc, which luckily neither of us get too often
