Probably been asked before but what do you ladies use?

Going to try and have a coil fitted on Thursday.. what were your experiences of having it put in?

I have the Mirena coil. Slightly worse than a pap smear, slightly crampy for a few hours afterwards.

Over the years I've had all 3

Pill worked best for me

Implant gave me headaches, they stopped as soon as it was removed. That said, I had it when it first came out so maybe its changed

Coil made me bleed every day till it was removed

I've taken the permanent option now. Hysterectomy. Bliss

Yes. My periods are much more manageable now, too.

Pill. Cerazette. Best invention ever. No cramps, no hormonal outbursts, no wanting to kill people and, best of all, no periods for 17 years x

?

I have a mirena coil - it was very painful having it put in, and I had bad cramps for about a week afterwards. It hasn't stopped my periods completely, but they're very light and only last 3 days

your so lucky. I'm on the implant and taking cerazette to help ease my irregular and heavy periods.. however i couldnt manage the coil. Periods were so bad and the cramps... omg I thought I was going to die. Tried 3 times... each time was not great.

I'd love to have something permanent

I was on cerazette for years, it completely killed my libido and made my anxiety worse. I came off it and just use condoms now, and the PMT makes me want to murder everyone. Swings and roundabouts

Cerazette gave me a two month non-stop period. Have had a Mirena coil for about 10 years now and have been very happy with it.

I have a mirena coil. Works better than the pill and drop for me

None of the above, I just use condoms.

I've tried everything (and I mean everything) but hormonal contraception interferes with a condition I have and I've had 2 awful experiences with the copper coil.

So now it's condoms/ female condoms only, at least until I can get a doctor to sterilise me.

Plain coil was ok.

Getting my tubes tied was the best

North west ish

Had all 3 over the years. Pill worked well for years. Implant was great for 2 years then failed. Mirena coil was awful to get fitted, won't lie to you, be prepared with pain killers. The cervix is not as flexible as we get older, but the plus side is its been amazing ever since. No periods,no mood swings, no side effects. So if u can get over the pain if getting it inserted it's fabulous. I would advise being kind to yourself for the rest of the day and having someone drive you home.

Pill was brilliant. Mirena is even better. Put off getting one for years cause of the horror stories but I had more pain getting to the clinic and parking than from the insertion itself. Painless. Bit of cramping and bleeding for a month and nothing since.

Have something to eat and take 2 ibuprofen an hour beforehand is my advice.
