Why don't you go back to China...

London

That was what I was faced with this morning on my commute to work. Sitting down minding my own business on the tube and a man standing in front of me says this while glaring at me...

After looking at him dumbfound not fully comprehending what he said he repeated it.

I had no come back, I wasn't really prepared for this at 8:30 in the morning and I was a stop away from where I needed to get off.

Like how do you even respond to that? No one around said a word they either stared at me or they "didn't hear" what was said.

Firstly, I'm Filipino (born and raised in London) and I've never been to China.

Secondly, even if I was Chinese that's such a hurtful and ignorant thing for him to say.

The media have thrown a lot of things out of proportion and I'm shaking my head at how fear have driven some people to lash out this way.

I see that the forums have opposing views I just wondered if you agree with what he did, if it was justified or was that out if line?

Firstly I must say how saddened and angered I am that you should have to put up with this kind of abuse by some ill informed bigot. It is a sad indictment of modern Britain and behaviour such as you faced is utterly deplorable and abhorrent.

Wish id have been there !!!!! He'd of wished he had died on the way to his mothers womb ....... i experienced blatant racism in Calafornia face to face to a black lad from London i was talking to ..... living in America .... he had been Drafted into the US army back in the 80's. The perpetrator was my Brother in law by marriage whom my family were stopping with his family. Unlucky for him we were on a pier fishing .....so i looked at the Black lad and proceeded to throw the dumb american over the pier 30ft to the shoreline ....... well i thought the sand would break his fall ....... not both his legs ... Whoops !!!

People like this have always been around under rocks. In the last few years (and I’d say from June 16, do the maths) they have been empowered and legitimised by the words and deeds of our so-called leaders.

We have a PM who has been openly insulting to black people, Muslim women, Turks, gay people, and politicians like him have stoked the innate prejudices of people in search of votes, knowing that it would create division and open racism that would work in their favour.

It’s shameful

I'm not a Labour supporter but i agree with them. Boris is openly racist and he got voted in to run the country, also they used immigration control as a reason for why brexit should happen because racism.

"People like this have always been around under rocks.

Only a Labour supporter would write this dont listen to this Half witted drivel of a comment

A very eloquent and thoughtful response there my friend

A factual 1 clearly ! "

I think is going away from the topic but no not really. No loyalty to any party. But interesting you said that. Have you ever been on the receiving end of racism? And how would you explain the increase in race-related incidents in the last 3 years?

I'm going to be blunt here.

Racist or not he's just an attention seeking bully.

I know some people who hold racist opinions, and they are free to have their opinion. But even they would not behave like this.

So, no matter where you go or what you do in life. There is going to be a bully wanting to knock you down to their level. Why? Because they don't like the fact you are better than they are.

Bullies seem to believe that they get bigger the smaller they make you feel.

But bullies. Homophobic, racist, sexist, anti-semite, Muslim hating or whatever thing they want to hide behind to legitimise their cowardly acts. Only ever have the power you give them.

A comeback wasn't nessecary. You couldn't make him look more stupid than he made himself.

I've seen this on the tube myself when i've been to london, sadly.

A group of moronic women were pretending to do a fake chinese accent and "bowing" to a guy in carriage i was in, last time i was there.

On a side note, I've taken to walking in london now, when i go & setting off an hour early or so, it's a very interesting place to walk around. Obviously this is not feasible if you need to be somewhere quickly/are travelling to work.

Like some other people have suggested, if you can report it, they might get the guy on camera.

-Don't let the fuckwits get you down.

-Sending positive vibes! x

"That was what I was faced with this morning on my commute to work.

I see that the forums have opposing views I just wondered if you agree with what he did, if it was justified or was that out if line?"

That's vile! If i'd have been there I'm afraid I'd have given him a good dressing down!

So sorry you had to put up with this gobshite hon

Echoing the previous posters, I’m so sorry that you had to encounter that today, and that it has stuck with you as it has.

I’d like to put a different slant on it - I’ve noticed a few scenarios in the media/tv programmes where minor celebrities have confronted people who have trolled them with horrendous comments online, and the common thread seems to be that these trolls are deeply unhappy people, projecting onto others, and that they feel deep jealousy towards. You probably looked beautiful today. And you’ll be beautiful in all your Filipina (I don’t think that’s the spelling!) loveliness tomorrow too, but he will have to continue being eaten up by unhappiness.

Just my penny’s worth

It's really not something I've encountered too much in my life directly and not saying anything or having anything to say to him was really because I wasn't ready for something like that to happen.

Basically my armoury was empty...

The last crazy thing that happened to me on the tube was last summer but that's a different story all together.

I just feel like this situation has been blown out of proportion for some and their fear is an excuse to bring up their prejudices... another thread going on at the moment about the coronavirus and someone saying they are avoiding their local Chinese takeaway???? Like that's obviously so logical from an educated point of view... I'm just mad and upset about all of this... my brother in law is Chinese, my future nephew or nieces will be half Chinese but to ignorant people we all look the same.

Not a nice thing to hear and in public too. The problem is human nature throws up a whole host of anomalies like that one. All cultures have their bigots who believe what they want to believe.

Don't take it personally, hold your head up high and be proud that you took the harrassment for the sake of others, you are a very brave lady. Hopefully he'll regret what he said when he realises how stupid he is.

For all he knows he could have been the cause of the epidemic.

There is no place where this could ever possibly be considered acceptable behaviour. We all come from somewhere ,as did our parents and theirs before and so on. Very very very few people are from where they think they are from and if traced far enough back we all come from the same place. We all have the right to just live our own lives. What part do you think is incorrect. It would take you about 5 seconds to find Johnson's racist, sexist and homophobic comments.

I've not accused anyone of being racist - least of all the OP. My point Gemma, is that many (quite understandably) will draw their own conclusions from a blatant "NO BLACKS / ASIANS" comment on a profile - and there are plenty of those on here.

I was merely comparing the OP's comment on her profile with her dreadful experience on the tube, and inviting a civilised debate.

I fail to grasp how melanin matters in the slightest when choosing a sexual partner; you're either compatible with someone, or you're not.

Secondly, even if I was Chinese that's such a hurtful and ignorant thing for him to say.

The media have thrown a lot of things out of proportion and I'm shaking my head at how fear have driven some people to lash out this way.

I see that the forums have opposing views I just wondered if you agree with what he did, if it was justified or was that out if line?"

Totally out of line & he just exposed his ignorance.

Who, in their right mind could possibly agree with this ignorant oaf's abhorrent, bigoted views; but your "preference" for white people only does raise an interesting point...

What point would that be?? Ah I know that she’s being racist towards anybody that’s not white? I’ve had that accusation too except I’m being racist to white guys because my preference is for black guys oh but apparently I’m also being racist to black guys as I’m just using them for sex lol at the end of the day it’s nobody else’s business who someone chooses to sleep with preferences when it comes to sex are very different to discriminating against others in real life non sexual situations

So completely out of line, such an idiot. We have no idea why someone could ever say such a hurtful and thoughtless thing, or why other people think it is acceptable to sit and say or do nothing. You are right to talk about it. X

Sadly, the whole Brexit thing has empowered racists; they believe they can now be this rude.

What a narrow minded comment

Sadly it's nothing new. In the 60s there was a documentary about sicko cell anaemia, a heridary condition that affects black and Mediterranean people.

Day after it was aired white friends wouldn't play with us and were scared because their parents told them not to play with us in case we infected them.

Thank you or sharing this bad experience and I really hope it never happens again not just to you but to anybody.

The OPs profile doesn’t state No Blacks/Asians though it states white guys only. Also what conclusions will people draw? I feel to grasp how it’s anyone else’s business who someone chooses as a sexual partner "

Just because my sexual attraction and therefore preference is predominantly for White men doesn't mean I hate Asian or Black men. I think there is a difference between attraction and tolerance. I don't have to explain myself on this site but I don't go around telling people I don't like Black or Asian people but attraction is attraction and who's to say I haven't been with some black and Asian men??
