Not saying this is the way, but you can say more than “hi” and less than something filthy.
Read a profile, look at the photos, notice the distance between you, see if there are common interests, read veris and see if there are more common grounds!?
Then, when you’ve spotted something to talk about, make a comment. It shows you’ve made the effort and that you’re not just a cock with a keyboard.
Hell, when on real life dates, I doubt I’d get anywhere if I say “hey” and sit quietly without asking questions...and I’m pretty sure I’d get slapped and told to fuck off if I went straight into details about something that’s a number of dates down the line?
Not gospel....common sense. Plus bare in mind, if you can’t think of any common ground, chances are she won’t see any either.
