Off to africa next week and want a new tatoo, what should you get to remember someone? Anyone know a good artist in London or Birmingham?

Lots in London, many of the good ones have waiting lists and will want a prior consultattion. plus the London loading.

Been a few year since i lived in Brum but there used to be a studio at the far end of Corporation Street (past the Law courts) that had an amzing reputation

DUBLIN

Have a great time in Africia if I was you I wouldn't get a tat done this close to going away, if you got an infection it could ruin your work of art.

Sorry I can't help wit the name of an artist but if you ever come to Dublin for one let us know. I have a fab back piece and it was done by a guy called Remis.

I know its abit dodge getting it done so close to leaving, but ill risk it its to remind me of someone so has to be done before I leave, does anyone else get tattoos as reminders? Lol

you will need to keep it covered so no walking around topless, if your having it on your top half, the sun will burn it like hell when its new, plus remember its a open wound and the humidity could cause an infection plus the mosquitoes will think its a full on buffet

but your choice

Realistically its not a good idea to have what is effectively an open wound prior to travelling. You may also find that your holiday insurance won't cover you as its something you chose to have. Think twice and check it out but it would be better to wait till you return if you are going to be sensible.

Don't know if you have been to Africa before pal but talking from experience, wear the shittest clothes and trainers you have. believe me. I was in Equitorial Guinnea in 2005 and and the way people looked me up and down was unnerving. Life cheap especiall for a raping, pillaging, enslaving white mother fucker. The boys I worked with took over a week to start talking to me. They shook my hand in the end and called me a good man pheeewwwww. Take care man no bling!

All of the artists at Flamin' Eight tattoo in Kentish Town, London are great. It's an award winning studio. But like others have said, don't get it done before going to Africa! At the worst it will get infected, at the very least it won't heal well and the sun will bleach it before the ink really holds.

"i really wouldnt get a tattoo done before you go to africa "

I was just thinking the same thing

Wait til you get back

Your life may be filled with new experiences and a tattoo to celebrate and remember those experiences, could be an excellent way of documenting this part of your life journey !

If you are that 'desperate' to get one done, check out the portfolios of artists first and book in with someone with a back catalogue worth looking at.

Anyone can be a tattooist, not everyone has the ability and skill to be a good tattooist.

Getting in with a renowned artist takes time - you may be lucky and get a cancellation, especially if you can go midweek.

Remember, whatever you have done will be with you for life.

IMHO it should be something that means something to you and not just a simple trace off a predetermined sketch.

If you are unsure of what you want, but want to experience the sensation of it, have something that be covered easily, so that if at a later date you want something more eloborate, it can be covered up.

Hope it all goes well for you out in Africa.

Report back safe

" everywheres fully booked "

everywhere that is half decent will be fully booked

i would say you will be lucky to get in anywhere but a newly established studio or one that doesn't have much of a reputation.

Is this seriously how this is going to be? Because it's not a game I'm prepared to play.

It's an open forum, we're both adults and I certainly have no axe to grind so I thought I'd give you the benefit of my knowledge of the area to use or not, as you see fit.

Jo Harrison is one of the best around mate. Her studio is in Birmingham.

And in London there some amazing ones in Camden town. Check out kamil, he's right near the Market.
