" If there is undoubted evidence and the offender has confessed then there is no reason to not employ a death penalty in severe cases. Why should someone who has taken the life of someone else be given 'free bed and board' and an opportunity to live on? It may just deter some of the malicious acts that take place and thus rather than a revenge it would be a deterrent. My opinion based on my view" There is a reason - it would lead to an unworkable system where the punishment was determined by the strength of the guilt, not the severity of the crime. You can't execute some murderers, but not others. Why should they be given the opportunity to live in? Because we live in a civilised western democracy, not the barbaric dark ages? And no, in virtually every study carried our, the death penalty has never been shown to be an effective deterrent. You only have to look at murder rated in US states with and without the death penalty to see that. | |||
