"True but I haven’t got the balls to tell the doctor that I’m feeling down all the time cos of sex "
Why? The doctors have heard all sorts... you could say you're feeling low because of the lack of intimacy in your life?!?
Is that the only reason you're feeling down or is that what you're focusing on?

I really think you should go to the doctor. Low mood and depression can materialise in lots of different ways.
It really is better to go to the gp...
Or maybe do an online test? I think theres one in the nhs website. That will advise you on what to do next.
Just don't leave it, its really not worth it x |

Clinical depression can often destroy your sex drive. If you think you're actually depressed speak to your doctor. If you're feeling lonely and longing for some intimacy in your life then with respect I really don't think you're in the right place but I hope you find it in wherever you choose to look. If you're just pissed off that you're not getting any then I'm sorry but there's no treatment for that. |

No doctor is going to judge you for the cause of your depression. People can get depressed for lesser things. Go see someone before it gets worse and harder to deal with. |

Sex is great and fun but if you are suffering from what you think is depression then I’m no expert but I’d guess there may be other factors that maybe you are missing and your lack of sex may just be a part of the overall problem.
The key is to be honest and talk talk talk to family friends and yes your doctor but beware that some and not all anti depressants can in some people but not all surpress orgasms.
I know they did for me so I binned them after a week and learnt to deal with it my self.
And if it helps(which it won’t) I havnt had sex in over ten years and I was a sex addict but I suppose I’ve got the memories.
Good luck
Chin or chins up
And talk to real people

What they said!
Plus, do you have close mates you can chat to about this and the other things?
Google men’s mental health - lots of good stuff can be found there.
Hope it helps OP |

Please go to the GP asap. My wife was depressed 4/4 years ago, none of the family or myself recognised the signs, withdraw from social life, being silent, sleeping a lot more, as no one in our family have experience of mental health issues. Unfortunately she went to the GP too late the damage was done and she went into a downward spiral culminating in a very serious attempt to take her own life, it wasn't a cry for help and she was saved only because I came home from work early. She was eventually admitted to a psychiatric hospital where she deteriorated further eventually becoming psychotic and was sectioned for 8 months, she spent 14 months in hospital and was discharged a wreck, she never recovered but cancer took her quite quickly last Easter. I urge you to look after yourself and me and my family wish we had recognized the signs earlier and perhaps she wouldn't have gone through all the anxiety |

I’m on the first day of sick leave due to depression. I’ve been trying to juggle life for too long. Feeling crap is so corrosive, so please go and see the doctor, regardless of the reason, depression isn’t nice. I’m hoping I’m back on my feet soon |

Depression sucks, I’ve had patients who come in & talk to me and it’s hard to listen to the stories. One thing I don’t do is tell them to medicate it. Personally suffered from depression myself, medication never helped me. So I always try & encourage the small things, structure, exercise, speaking to somebody & in that hopefully open a gateway where we can find a solution.

But it does help some people. It helped me, it saved my life. Its helped my partner. Its helped scores of other people I know. It seems crazy to not even consider it. |

Thanks for the very kind words, Hun. Means a lot to know that genuine people care for others. You’re right, that hard bit is done and I’m going to concentrate on getting back on track. Hope you’re well too. Xx |

Good for you.
I've been off work since july because I hit rock bottom. It's scary accepting that something is wrong but it really is worth it.
You've taken the first step by admitting theres something going on. Good luck and keep us posted...x |

I’m not disputing medication doesn’t work. But I’d rather work on things first. It depends on the person individually.
I’m just glad whoever suffers from depression, gets help one way or another.

First off, well done for talking about it; that takes guts, even with the relative anonymity here.
Go see your doctor talk about it. They won't judge you and all the doctors I've known are very broad minded!
Medication can really help, it did for me, but there are other options too. Take care, good luck. |

"Any one els feel depression wen you don’t have sex at all been a long time since I had some and starting to feel down all the time or is jusd me "
You may just be imagining it’s lack of sex that’s bringing you down, the reality could be it’s another underlying problem, so as others have said, there’s no shame in getting help.
I was single for a long time before I met Kim , I had plenty of sex because I worked in the adult industry, however, I ended up feeling lonely and desensitised, it wasn’t a good time in my life. I’d get a temporary high from sex and then a massive low after. So my point is, don’t think sex will cure your lows, it could end up making things worse. Fix the route of the problem.
Good luck |

Unfortunately we all get depressed and having expections from this site will make it worse...
Get out more and get away from 'the screen'... There are a lot of nice people in the 'real world' and replace your fantasies with honest people.. |

It saved my life too!! Hard to admit but I had a short stay in a mental health unit because things had got so bad.
Medication is not the cure but it definitely helped me by taking the edge off. I'm not ashamed to say I'm in medication. I've been through absolute hell....thankfully I can see the light now.
Sending everyone who's suffering a big fat hug. Xx |

Totally this, doc and as someone else said its not enough on its own. It just helps you do the things you need to do to get better. You still have to do them and if you don't then you'll make no progress. But I won't forget opening my eyes one morning after three weeks and everything feeling different. The black, hopeless void was gone. There was still so much to do but I wasn't catatonic and paralysed, I could do it. My doctor stood up and hugged me when I told her she'd saved my life and I'd never forget it or her. I'm so grateful to you and everyone like you for the help you give us. |

Mild depression can go away on its own but that depends on your mindset. Moderate to severe depression needs expert help. Sadly, like the rest of the NHS, mental health is underfunded but their are charities out there. Samaritans, definitely for crisis moments, and MIND.
Do not self medicate with alcohol, it is a depressant. If you have a support network (family, friends, neighbours) use them. Many people don't, so be your best friend and definitely reach out to your GP.
If you have issues tha go deep (such as into your childhood) and you can afford a counsellor, do consider this root. Talking therapies do work.
If you are prescribed meds, don't expect a quick fix. Other ways to help you is taking a look at your sleeping pattern, how you relax (look into mindfulness), exercise and nutrition.
Remember depression can be a long road which you can take with others by your side, but they cannot do the work for you. There are no quick fixes.
Good luck. |

Hi op(Allan)
I had depression which was not diagnosed and stress for years, got help in 2015 and got through it, but the medication did give me erectile disfunction and. Started feeling more feminine. I also think this ( the stress and depression) caused the cancer..
Chin up, get yourself to the docs and try and live life rather than life leading you..
