Probably going to open a can of worms here. We are regular church goers and am very much part of the community. However we still love kinky sex and swinging life. It really goes against what most of the congregation think. Anyone else the same as us? |

We used to be regulars (Dave was churchwarden, Caroline was Verger) but we've not been for a while (various reasons).
One day Dave had read a lesson condemning adulterers' - he changed the word to idolaters' & nobody mentioned it! |

the way i look at it is we all have this life and i want it to be as fun and memorable as i can. Just because you enjoy certain things that may go against the grain of what other people think and believe doesnt mean its not right for you. YOU make the choice to live your life according to your terms. Your faith isnt going to change because of that. If you are worried about other peoples opinion of you - well my favourite saying is when other peoples opinion start paying my bills then i might give a shit |

I wrote a forum about this before and there were not many religious poeple online. I'm a Catholic myself although not a church goer.. There's still something which doesn't seem right about it to me. |

You have no idea what others in your congregation, family, street, or community do behind closed doors. It your business not theirs and there business not yours. |

As a Christian I do think that consensual sex between adults ranks so low on the scale of sinning as to be negliable. Especially when compared to the conduct of some of those who are supposed to be setting the example for us to follow. |

You keep your nailed god, I know which heaven I want...
"It gladdens me to know that Odin prepares for a feast. Soon I shall be drinking ale from curved horns. This hero that comes into Valhalla does not lament his death! I shall not enter Odin’s hall with fear. There I shall wait for my sons to join me. And when they do, I will bask in their tales of triumph. The Aesir will welcome me! My death comes without apology! And I welcome the valkyries to summon me home!” |

Interesting thread... I’m a catholic church goer and I can see the conflict some people may see.
However as already shared above, consensual sex and sensual tease and chats are so low in the ranking order of sins compared to others committed by church goers or even church administrators that actually I don’t see the problem any more...

Being a catholic do you confess about doing what we are all on this website for? P.S. I’m writing this from my church. |

I (Luke) dispute the religious concept that morality is a set of rules handed out from some supposed moral authority. I don't see how a god gets to declare him/herself THE moral authority. IMHO, morality is really about the harm it causes or prevents. That's all.
If your faith (and others who share it) tells you that you shouldn't do something, that's a problem with the thing you believe in, not you. You can make up your own mind if your actions harm others.
This is coming from somebody who was a committed and active Christian for 13 years before concluding that it didn't make any sense and has no evidence at all to support it. |

I may be wrong but the church's teaching is about adultery and coveting another person. You can't be doing either if it's open, with the consent of everyone involved and relationships are secure.
'Immoral acts' are really defined by society and reflected by what society (or a group in society) thought at the time the scripture was written. So, for example, homosexual acts between men (I don't think the scripture ever mentioned women) were frowned upon and only recently has society/the church in this country changed (and is still changing) it's views.
Much of what is said in scripture is about maintaining stable, loving relationships and avoiding societal disharmony. In other words, not to harm and wherever possible to build up others.
That all seems reasonable to me and in most cases compatible with consensual swinging.
Happy to hear alternative takes on this. |

Does not your god have two commandments covering what everyone is here for...Not committing adultery and not coveting your neighbours wife.
Hardly low ranking "sins" according to your church.
But seeing a large percentage of Catholic priests are paedophiles it's all bollocks anyway. |

I think the OP asked an open question about the compatibility of church-going and swinging - not looking for a personal attack. |

"Haven’t been to church for a while. But I do have a faith. I do sometimes struggle with my sexual desires when I think a out my faith.
Why? "
Just because of the “moral issue” linked with promiscuity. As well as the fact that I’m bi. Although that last thing is less of a problem now because the curate at our church is gay so I know the church Is moving away from judging people so much. |

Ian Dury was asked if he believed in God.. He said "I believe in good which I think is pretty much the same thing". I believe there's a right and wrong thing to do, I believe its good to be kind and bad to be unkind. But organised religion is all man made and it was made by the people in charge. It was made to suppress. That's what I believe.
You don't have to go to church to be a good person and whatever you eat or fuck or don't eat and don't fuck won't affect how good a person you are either. But I'm all for people doing anything that comforts them and hurts no one and going to church qualifies as both. As the pagans say : "An it harm none, do as ye will". |

I lust for married women and I think that is a sin.
You say that the church is moving away from judging people so much.. But surly that doesn't change what was written in the bible. At the end of the day, it's supposed to be the word of God right.
So what difference do it make what anyone else says or does. |

Christianity is a religion of persecution. Since it was legitimized around 311AD and began to spread any that didn't convert were persecuted, tortured and murdered. For a religion founded on love and forgiveness it's been at the core of some of the worst atrocities in history.
Whilst the Holocaust gets all the press for the worst atrocity visited on a single ethnic group the Christian Crusaders butchered between 1 and 3 million in thier quest to claim the Holy Land. All because those millions didn't bow to thier version of god.

Nope, I didn’t do that either. What I have noticed is some of the contributors here who identify as having faith/religions have contributed negatively occasionally on other threads in the manner I described. It was just an observation, hence the question as I was interested to see if an ingrained, religious upbringing could possibly have a negative effect on someone, even if they are in the lifestyle, a sort of guilt for want of a better description.
You don’t even know if I have a faith or religion.

I am not religious. However I have been studying leadership, that leads to Jesus, the best influential leader the world has ever seen. And what I learned so far about him is, he didnt come to judge the world but save the world. He made it clear that to the woman who was caught in adultery. So my answer is let your concious decide what is right or wrong. His teachings were all about love, grace and truth. Never talks about judging others. |

A lot of religious taboos are based on sense
For example, pork was often riddled with tapeworms and dangerous to eat, adultery threatened social cohesion, especial in pre industrial villages, consumption of alcohol has obvious social problems.
In pre industrial society, pre proper laws, the best way the regulate behaviour was to make it an offence against God. But society has changed quite a bit since then, so some taboos are no longer really relevant.
So, as many posters have said, having sex with others is not really a major sin any more |

I think there are huge problems with this and some religion. If you believe religions pick and mix why bother? If your balance is that those who preach your religion are up to the same or worse .... why bother ? The church is very accepting of all kinds it previously had issue with.... loss of income! If you have to bow to trends dictated by your followers .... why bother? ..... I’m sorry .... I’m just not bothered! But, if you have religion, follow its teachings or you water down what you hold dear.... or don’t bother! |

OK so I'm a Christian. I was (not so much now) very comimited to my church. My faith is strong and I actively worship, pray and study the bible. I was actually totally celibate for 10 years until 2 years ago as I felt that as a single person it was an important part of my faith.
I believe that God still loves me and Iv never believed that God is not interested in the sexually active who are not married, I was celibate for personal choice and no other reason.
I'm not looking for judgement as only God can do that.
I was very reluctant to post this because of the negativity on this post and its already been suggested that people with a faith are judgmenle on the forums. |

If you find religion and the teachings of the Bible a problem with swinging perhaps your on the wrong site!!
Treat people how you want them to treat you and you won't go far wrong.
Religion and swinging are choices you make, neither makes you a bad person!! |

"If you find religion and the teachings of the Bible a problem with swinging perhaps your on the wrong site!!
Treat people how you want them to treat you and you won't go far wrong.
Religion and swinging are choices you make, neither makes you a bad person!! "
I very much agree with this. The main reason I don't tell my friends about this part of my lifestyle is because it's none of their business not because I'm embarrassed or ashamed. Would they possibly be considered for my safety yes, would some disapprove, definitely but so would some of my none Christian friends but they would all still love me. |

It pleases me that you feel this way. Too many people critisise others and never look closer to home, ie themselves.
I wouldn't disapprove of anybody with faith and obviously anybody who like to swing. I hold all my friends in high regard no matter what they like as long as they respect others. |

"Probably going to open a can of worms here. We are regular church goers and am very much part of the community. However we still love kinky sex and swinging life. It really goes against what most of the congregation think. Anyone else the same as us?" i am not religious i believe in the process of natural evolution but church as a means of being a part of a community that accepts you for what you are i can't see as being a bad thing |

are you flat earthers or creationists? :P
You are an example of expressing your free will over a doctrine, unfortunately many religious types express the lowest of maslows hierarchy of needs(a psychological theory I contend with) while maintaining a sexual identity, they cannot still understand what makes them so flawed as preachy human beings.
If you came out, like in many religions, you will be subject to abuse from your own community, do you not see the irony of something like your Christianity vs a Muslim outlook?- in both cases members who are ex-communicated are seen as lesser humans etc
question if your faith holds any meaning for your daily life.
listen to matt dillahunty on his toxic religious parents, it is very heartfelt:

a church if they know you have 'issues' will still ram it down your throat that you are a sinner andthey wish to save you.
they've been doing the same thing to gays for decades,"we love you but you are wrong and god will save you, when you decide to repent". |

I would have thought a congregation would be a good place to meet up with other like minds.
Nothing wrong in enjoying the body that God gave you. When one reads about paedophilia and the goings on in the established churches it seems highly hypocritical for the hierarchy to condemn consensual activities. Enjoy my friends ,amen |

"Anyone who follows a religion therefore denies the scientific facts of evolution. If you follow a certain religion and are worried about Swinging then you don't really believe in that religion as a by-fact.
I pray to all my God's that you see the light. Fuck like Rabbits and seek redemption in the After Life. "
There are many highly regarded scientists who consider themselves religious. They do not see an incompatibility between science and religion. Even Richard Dawkins, an atheist, concedes that his 'belief' is that there is no God but as a scientist he must be an agnostic because he has no proof of this ... i.e. scientific fact ... on which to base his position. Sometimes science has to catch up. |

The OP asked opinions of church goers not for people to mock religion or faith.
It's funny that people who go to church are seen as judgemental, the only judgement Iv seen on this thread is from non church goers!. |

"OK so I'm a Christian.
We are in the same boat as Christians. We have reconciled our faith with the joy we find with our fab friends. Glad to go into particulars but just know we do our best to be respectful to all and avoid harming anyone else's relationships. Yes we understand we are in the minority compared to traditional interpretation |

I'm not a church goer but I used to meet a rather devout Catholic. He would pray for me from time to time, and talk about me in confession. Lovely chap, I just can't relate to his faith though, but we talked about it a lot. Sorry that was no help at all |

"The thought of church goers getting upto all kinds of kinky and unholy antics is such a turn on
Who said it was unholy? "
I meant in general, for example, a vicar having an affair with some members of his church |

Amen!
It’s the same with the threads on vegetarianism or what not, the meat eaters storm in with their opinionated beliefs, and force it down everyone’s throat - whilst nobody had asked for it.
They can’t handle someone having different beliefs. This shows whom the true hypocrites are.

I now worship at the alter of Onan frequently and without any semblance of confusion or guilt. I also have a lot of sex.
I was a baptist (and choir boy!) in my younger life. Brought up on a diet of bible, guilt and shaming.
I could never reconcile my personal thoughts and feelings with the doctrine, faith and disdain inherent within the church I was sworn to follow from a young age.
Whatever works for you. If you can make those contradicting worlds lay down together in peace and with open honesty, good for you.
My own peace came when realising I'd rather find strength having faith in myself and other people. |

Nods, smiles indulgently and leaves the room, quietly hoping that what was actually intended by those words was, in fact, irony.

"Interesting thread... I’m a catholic church goer and I can see the conflict some people may see.
However as already shared above, consensual sex and sensual tease and chats are so low in the ranking order of sins compared to others committed by church goers or even church administrators that actually I don’t see the problem any more...
How is what anyone has said so far a personal attack....
Just because the way people have written their opinions seems a little aggressive does not say they are actually smiting him....
The way I write at times, some people take it the wrong way.....I get called rude..... it this says more about the people reading what I have written than it says about me.....
Forums are for discussions and opinions.....not snowflakes |

"We used to be regulars (Dave was churchwarden, Caroline was Verger) but we've not been for a while (various reasons).
One day Dave had read a lesson condemning adulterers' - he changed the word to idolaters' & nobody mentioned it!"
That’s quite hot x |

I can’t be bothered going to the post about adultery and coveting your neighbours wife. So I shall reply to yours. If all parties are consensual in swinging, then those two commandments have not been broken.
Also, I agree that more discussion should be allowed on here. I feel that there is far too much censoring of people’s opinions (which do not break any rules). |

He's says he's only agnostic in the sense of not being able to disprove god exists
It's like being agnostic about unicorns for example. It's possible that they exist but it's not very likely |

I have been studying Jesus as a transformational leader. I am not religious. But I have deep hunger to know him better!
I know a lot about spirituality. But his teaching is out of this world! |

After going to church regularly with my grandparents when o was younger, it strikes me that not a lit of people stick to the catholic values.
So many turned up to church proving what good Catholics they were, only to ignore them once they got out into the car park.
Don't get me wrong, religion has a place in people's lives. Don't think it holds the same meaning as it did years ago. |
