What is the point of sending a wink when most people seem to get annoyed with people sending them?

It says you are interested. I usually ignore them unless I am interested in the person and will wink back

Receiving a wink only results in me winking back

It immediately denotes laziness to me

A wink can be the foot in the door in some situations, but not always.

Can't understand why someone would become annoyed about something they're perfectly capable/able to ignore

I prefer winks to random messages and it says do in my profile, I can check out profile at my leisure and wink back if I like what I see ... then it's up to them whether to message or not but let's face it a "thanks for returning wink" is a way more easier message to write

We don’t bother with them. Prefer a nice thought out message, sending or receiving

Touché, saves writing a personalised message out that people crave so much then just ignore you... them who read then mark as unread are definitely my worst kinda people

Love the winks. It’s an icebreaker; if both wink then message.

Had meets from winks

I don't mind a wink ,if its from someome who has read my profile. They can easily be ignored if not.

Its better than a one or 2 word message, just my opinion.

Also, winks by-pass filters.

I’ve had a great meet from a guy who winked because he couldn’t message. I winked back and he could then message.

Not sure many know this but it’s handy as there’s always an exception

"saves writing a personalised message out that people crave so much then just ignore you"

This annoys me massively and I totally agree. So many say they want a thought out message but don't have the decency to warrant you with a "Thanks for the message but I don't feel we're compatible, all the best x". You can waste your time, but they're too special to waste theirs. Arseholes.

Reminds me of sending a 'poke' or throwing a sheep on Facebook from way back. Passive flirting

So many profiles state that they ignore winks. Why? It’s a lighthearted way to show interest and for many that get fed up of sending messages that are constantly ignored it’s the less painful option.

Some people take themselves way too seriously on here

I think a wink is better than a “hi”or a “what are you up to” or a “I’m horny”... it’s an appreciation of I think your tidy

I’ve not found that to be true. Filters apply to winks too.

A wink is me saying I like something about your profile.

I see it as a start of further communication, that is, if people wink back or actually like winks. There is nothing wrong with disliking them, but it would be ideal if somewhere in the profile you say so. No point winking at people that do not like them.

I do think a wink is a good way of showing initial interest. For us a wink is a simple way of saying we like what we see on your profile and would like to have a chat and see where it leads if our interests are compatible. If we get a wink back then we’ll message. As said above it is a good way of breaking the ice and establishing if there’s a mutual interest before going any further

If we get a wink from someone we like we will wink back to show interest. However if it’s from someone that isn’t what we are looking far I.e. a guy, we usually just block them because they have clearly ignored our wants

Thanks

We prefer to wink sometimes just let's people know we are interested however we would prefer a msg back rather than a wink. If people wink us and we like what we see we will follow up with a message

No they can’t. Only possible if they come within your filter settings.

I wink at couples or ladies that I’m interested in chatting to. If they wink back I follow it up with a nice message. I’m shy initially and this helps me overcome my apprehension
