Lying about your age
Jump to: Newest in thread
I have seen quite a few profiles where people have either lied about their age or have had a really tough paper round. I think honesty works best, age is just a number and its how you think and feel that counts. |

I've not lied about my age sinse I was 17 to get served alchohol.
...So not for about 13 years
I agree that it is silly to lie about age and use false or old pics, as if you're intending to meet, it's not going to get off to a great start if they're expecting Zack Efron and Zack Dingle turns up.

I agree I know a few people who admitted to me to have lied about their age, I feel it's very disingenuous. One of them I only found out after I went for a social with him ages ago and he looked so much older than I had expected. I was put off by the fact he lied, not the fact that he looked older |

My age is ever so slightly out for anonymity purposes (by under a month).
But yes, people definitely do age at different rates.
Other people lie to get around filters. I've even had messages, like Man (40), "I'm actually 22 but not many women let 22 year olds message...". Block. |

I've got up to 55 on my looking for range, I don't really mind how old as long as they look within my age range (same as if someone who is 50 but look 60 will be a no from me!) |

I've met people socially who have lied about age marital status etc. Totally agree, I was more pissed off that they had lied. Certainly it put me off meeting them again. |

We have seen this a lot.
We look young for our ages.
But when people who claim to be our age contact us we just think why lie ?
We would never lie about our age all it would do is piss people off who agree to meet us and we look a lot older than what we state.
It just makes no sense to lie about it. |

I know I could get away with lying about my age as people always get it wrong, but I don’t see the point. I’m very comfortable with it and if it puts me out of reach for some, it’s unfortunate, but life goes on!! |

Oh the old fab age trick - mines right age, don’t look it apparently and certainly don’t feel it but so many blokes have a fab age compared to their real age - we’ve had a good laugh in the past, chatting with a group of people I was the youngest in real life but the oldest on fab! |

age is just a number some people might lie because they think other people won't look or meet them at all. myself i don't care what age you are as long we both click and enjoy ourselves it also goes for looks and size nobody is perfect in life i think everyone should be given a chance all that has to happen is talk you might surprise yourself and have fun |

No one ever believes me anyway.
Even though I tell them the truth.
Mentally I'm still in my twenties. Or younger. (I am a man, after all).
Physically I'm ready to be put out to pasture |

I met a guy recently who said he was 39 on his profile but admitted to 46 when I met him. He looked younger to be fair but I was put off that he had lied about it. |

Age is just a number. I can't see why people lie about their age. I've met many on here who try to knock years off their age. I never lie about mine. I may not look or act my age but hey so what I'm just me. Take it or leave it |

Let em lie.
Most people make minds up based on the photos.
If they look like they need ID to buy beer, no go.
If they look like they remember the fire of london, pass.
All the lie does is get past the filter. Doesnt get past the polite 'no thanks'

I’m 50, I see no point in lying. I’ve met people though who’ve knocked a good 10-15 years off their age. It’s done to get round filters a lot of the time. |

Must admit, I did trim a few years off when I first joined many years ago.
But you'll always get found out in the end. So now I'm the age I really am.........and it sucks!! |

It's the intent, that somebody isn't honest, what else would they not be honest about,a partner?"
I don't like people to lie to me, however if age genuinely was just a number we wouldn't have ages on profile because it would be irrelevant. It's usually possible to tell those who've been inventive with their date of birth anyway. Shoes are a huge give away in a man along with necks and hands in both sexes. These are the criteria I go by rather than the age they put on their profile |

Absolutely this!
This is the internet people, I don't give out any real facts about myself, age, name, address, nothing! Someone might steal my identity and go on to become a high class, sexy criminal! It's just not worth the risk! |

To be fair... you can understand the lies... it's hard enough getting someone to look at your profile... but if you are not in certain age bracket you get missed... so it will happen when folk get to 30... or 35... or 40 and so on...
But what's the use folk are not daft just be honest |

I can see why lying about your age may seem like a way of getting around filters.
When we meet in clubs we never ask for an age verification. Either we like the look of you and visa versa or we don't.
If you got around fabs age filters and made a connection that worked out, would they really reconsider if they discovered you were 52 rather than 48?
Clearly the bigger the gap the harder it is going to be to maintain the age illusion.
But not the worse thing to be tried on fab. |

I have a fab age. It’s well within the margin of what people would guess if they met me. It’s a bit of vanity, but also people do set filters at round numbers: 30, 40, 50. I know many on here, equally split between the sexes, who are knocking a decade or so off. Sickeningly I think in the main they can get away with it. They look good for their ages. And every new profile they come back a couple of years younger. Fab has the secret of internal youth. Or sex is the secret to staying young. |

Both our ages are true on here..though we did have someone block us before as they thought I (fem) was lying about my age and thought I looked younger than I said lol
Even after chatting about having a teenager..god only knows what age she thought I started having kids at

We've been on here for so long that we can't change our ages without starting a new profile.
Can't be bothered as we tend to meet in clubs, but I can see why people do it.
We met a couple in a club and they thought we were in our 20's (or where just fantastic at flattery).
We had a great night, but if that was a fab meet rather than a club meet and the filters were set for 35 we'd have never have had a chance to meet them.
So I can see why people do it. |

I've met a 68 year old who is have thought was mid 50s, and my ex brother in law is 15 years younger than me but because he's an alcoholic chain smoker he looks 10 years older.

We’d reckon about 75% of people we’ve met for socials have lied about their age.
We met a couple 5 years ago. They said they were 45 but looked older. Now 5 years later their age is still 45 on their profile. |

How? Not sure how it works with couples profiles but with singles you enter DOB and on your birthday your age changes. Not sure how 5 years down the line thier age is the same, I know fab allows you to change DOB but I thought you could only do it once.

Think they trashed their old profile and recreated. We couldn’t remember their username but all pics were the same. |

No need for a woman to lie about her age. The vast majority of men on a site like this won't care if a female is young enough to be his daughter or old enough to be his grandmother, a shag is a shag.
Women have the power here so many men feel the need to lie about their age to fit in with the female's ideal. Some of us can get away with it cos we don't need to use old photos and look damn good for 73 |

I’ve realised most people 40+ lie about their age. It’s strange how many people are between 38-42 and 48-52. Below that I don’t think many people lie.
The worst I encountered was a couples profile stating they were both 46. But they also had profiles as individuals, where they both said they were 28.
When I questioned them they said it was an accident? Freaks.

"If age is just a number why does it matter if people lie about it?

Bingo!
Keyword - "intent"
So many things around this topic. Here is my short version:
Some people don't age at all... people leave and come back younger... looking to get around filters... some profiles taking off 10+ years... the age lie could lead onto other things like height... if you start off on a lie when interacting with someone it has the potential to ruin things before they even get started...
Having said that some people take chances and hope for the best. They get through all the communication leading to the meet and depending on the other person it either flops with a reality check or they actually continue... seen these things go both ways many times. So the "chancers" continue to try...
I prefer to keep things real from the beginning therefore my profile is accurate. |
