I have a half cast cousin who is really dark, he refers to himself as the chocolate polar bear. I wouldn't dare say that to any other black person ut can be offensive to them "
I think the term is mixed race |

Romesh Ranganathan isn't a black man, yet he doesn't seem to cause offence on his new show on the BBC, when referring to himslef as chocolate. So I'm guessing you prefer wipeboards to blackboards and let's not even mention sheep |

I think he gets away with it because of the context and the humour - but what someone says about themselves and what they like others to say can be two different things. I had a black buddy who used to say things about himself - although jokingly - that I couldn’t possibly say. |

So what is the swingers socially acceptable word to describe a black gentleman ???
Black is out
Bbc is definitely out
Chocolate is out
Brown skin just seems weird and ambiguous too many cultures fall under this one.
How do I convey in a non offensive way that I am naturally attracted towards West Indian heritage gentlemen who may or may not be British/English.
If I don't make it clear on my profile I only get messages from white men who to me I may as well be a lesbian as far as my attraction goes.
The I take offence to everything tribe are literally making it impossible not to offend someone somehow.
Call me milkyway slut.. I couldn't care less |

I live in a very multicultural part of the world and no-one I know is offended by the word 'black' although most of my friends come in a variety of flavours.
I've only heard chocolate used in a jokey way e.g. everyone knows Kas prefers white chocolate. Again, can't think of anyone I know that would be offended by that.
I think if anyone used the expression 'half caste' around here you would get eye-rolling from my mixed race friends and a whole load of abuse from white folk getting offended 'on behalf of' other people - something that really annoys me!! |

White men to me the same as women are to gay guys ... I've always been that way and can't help it. Speaking as a white Icelandic woman who had only one black kid in my school growing up and yes he was my first kiss at the age of 13. |

Let me throw my hat in the ring...
I identify as a Black Man. If someone was to describe me by using my colour as the descriptive word, then I'd prefer them to use Black.
There are some words that can be offensive and many have a historical racial origin. I personally dislike when I hear the word "Coloured" or "Ethic Minority"... I don't turn purple when I bruise, red when I'm hot, and Globally Black/Brown people are in actual fact the Majority.
It's so crazy now though as it's so easy to draw the "Race" card or claim someone is racist because you feel offended, but yet every top 10 pop song has the "N" word littered throughout the lyrics (which everyone sings along to let's be honest), can't win either way.
Everyone is so easily offended nowadays, which makes everyone else walk on egg shells because you're scared to offend someone.
I don't take myself too serious so you can call me Chocolate and talk about my BBC as much as you want, you can say you like your men like coffee and all those "endearing" terms of affection.
Rant Over...
P.s Shout to all the Women that Love all them Chocolate Men out there

Definitely in an era of sensitive attitudes in the west for sure. Especially the under 25s I find always seem to like a good rant online about something . My industry is rife with it currently.
Some is valid some is just ridiculous and you wonder how they will function in high pressure industries / areas going forward . |

What I find funny is that most people get "Racism' confused with "Prejudice"
Racism is Institutional. Some of most powerful institutions are still very much Racist which sometimes trickles down into everyday society.
However, Everyone single one of have Prejudice towards other people. I think it's a natural human instinct to prejudge someone based on there physical traits, i.e race, height, gender etc
I don't think it's offensive to do so either. It's ok to feel offended or hurt by someone else's views of you, that's fine. People just gotta find a better way of dealing with it because not everything is supposed to be taken in that manner (grow a pair).

Threads like this just reinforce my view that the colonial mindset still exists.
Label everyone put them in boxes and control accordingly.
Of course now I'll be accused of being overly sensitive.
I don t want to be anyones dairy milk or Rolo thank you very much.

"Chocolate
A term to describe a black person
I’d find this offensive
Be interested to hear views

I don’t know, ‘chocolate’ and ‘coffee’ just feel a bit weird and creepy and euphemistic to me. The kind of thing said by people who know that ‘coloured’ is offensive but are uncomfortable with ‘black’.
But I’m white, so what do I know? |

Curious about this. So you’re saying that by pointing out your colour, people are putting you in a box and displaying a colonial mindset?
I personally hate it when people say ‘oh I didn’t even notice your colour’. Wtf? Are you even looking at me? How can you not notice? It’s how they point it out in an acceptable way to each of us that is both key and deeply individualistic. Most racism I’ve experienced here on fab? Easily from people with a similar skin colouring to mine.... As always personal preference reigns supreme as I wouldn’t mind a sexy, attractive hunk of a male calling me Rollo. Shall we now debate the definition of sexy or attractive or hunk or even male? Nah... |

"What does pee me off tho is a message that goes like " would you ever consider a black man" I've had a couple like that. "
I don’t like the ones that go along the lines ‘brown belongs to brown, bitch’. What a catchy seduction phrase |

"It's about how you use the terms that's important, for example Black is fine, but messaging us saying "oh sexy, never been with a black before" is off putting and just comes across as fetishing skin colour." .

Well Errol Brown was a pretty cool dude and it didn't do him any harm. Are we all becoming far too sensitive and PC. Would Errol brown call his band Hot chocolate now ???. Probably not tbh. |

I am pale and will only refer to people as food for comparisons like "I like my coffee/chocolate like my men". |

"My coloured friends all call me coconut as they all say I'm white but want to be black "
Coloured
Do your Black friends know you refer to them as "coloured"???
This word is very dated an inaccurate. On closer inspection, it's white people who should actually be referred to as coloured due to the various colours you turn if hot, cold or bruised??? |
