There has been a recent update on the reported rise in sexually transmitted diseases and the greatest increase has been amongst gay and bisexual males...
An obvious question, but should we (regardless of gender) be concerned and what are the options..?
Be celibate perhaps..? |

I still think the statistics are there as gay men especially followed by bi are much more likely to get tested for diseases, are much more aware than straight guys. |

Maybe fab should have a checkbox for celebate swingers. |

I think that its more likely down to men being more willing to not use condoms. |

To be fair I wouldn't be surprised if it's that men are now more willing to say they are bi, even on here it's still fairly stigmatized. |

I remember chatting a few years ago to a friend who worked in sexual health for the local NHS board.
Their greatest concern was the hidden population of males, typically married to women, aged in the 30-45 range, engaged in same-sex activity.
They were finding it very difficult to communicate health messages to them.
I can only imagine what effect a decade of spending squeeze has had on sexual health services.

Stigmatized in what way? It being wrong? Or as in a higher chance of STD so best not to meet them? |

Can anybody explain the science behind WHY bisexual men are riddled with disease?
What is it that bisexual men do that makes them so vulnerable to STDs. Is is something they do? Are they more promiscuous? Is there something about male bisexuality that prevents them using protection? |

Some people are just very promiscuous, add that to people playing more bareback it’s only natural that the levels will rise, I think people are thinking they can enjoy doing it bareback with other high risk people and if worse case you can get better treatment for hiv nowadays so it’s not such a worry
For gay men loads take prep too, it’s given readily at the clinic if you are gay and often do bareback sex

"Perhaps too stupid or too lazy to use condoms...
The male ego is a wonderful thing...."
Very scientific.
Bi men are known for their laziness and stupidity? Didn't know that? |

Shouldn't the statistic be that STDs are on the rise amongst bareback bi men? Or is the use of condoms not of interest to the people doing studies. |

The only thing that is different is the higher levels of bareback anal sex, not only are you getting body fluids you are getting anal bleeding so unfortunately a higher level will be catching infections and yes quite a few gay men are more promiscuous

As indeed bisexual men are often more promiscuous . And as you said previously the use of prep has a lot to do with the rise in std’s amongst bi and gay men . |

We should always be concerned about our sexual health. If people (of any orientation/age) will have unprotected sex with random people the number of STIs will increase. Sadly, there are too many people who don’t believe they’ll ever become a statistic and they plod on through life thinking they’re untouchable.

You tell us. I wanted to reply to your last comment on the other thread as I felt you were making unsupported assumptions but unfortunately when a thread gets full it is not possible. I think these threads have been good and I can see you are a passionate supported of your point of view. Why do you think studies are misrepresenting the reality? |

My reason for this is that I am the most active bisexual I know. I have been to the bi nights at VA, Arousals, Greenhouse, Chams, Eurekas and the old Abfabs. My myself and my OH have had sexual partners running into the triple figures. Neither of us have picked up an STD from these encounters. Yet according to "statistics" we are riddled with STDs. I have questioned a GUM nurse how it is possible that people who indulge in higher risk activities such as bareback gangbangs rate lower. The answer was that there are no checkboxes for higher risk activities.
The statistics also covers data for all people. Not just swingers. Here is a quote from Reuters which factors swinging into the equation:
"Overall, combined rates of Chlamydia and gonorrhea were just over 10 percent among straight people, 14 percent among gay men, just under 5 percent in female prostitutes, and 10.4 percent among swingers, they found. And female swingers had higher infection rates than male swingers."
Hmmmmm so while we have the biphobes quoting the results of one eyed surveys on a daily basis. We have other studies showing different results.
Do yourself a favour and go to the bareback threads and see if the majority of people defending their choice to play bareback are bisexual males or straight couples..... do bisexual males get STDs just from being bi?
I am told bi men get more STDs because they suck cock. Women don't? I am told bi men get more STDs because they do anal? Women don't? I've seen more hetrosexual anal in clubs than guy on guy anal.

Another point is that #1 on the STD list is single women under 25. You don't need to be swinging for a long time to know that there aren't enough under 25 female swingers to make up this statistic. Therefore we are talking about people like girls who get d*unk at clubs etc.
If people are going to point fingers at bisexual men on fab and discriminate against them let's have statistics relevant to them not dragnet statistics that encompass people in completely different circumstances. |

I don’t think it is fair to blame gay men on being more promiscuous, trust me been on straight scene my whole life aswell as gay and there is no difference between straight and gay lads, they equally hunt for sex. Either orientation are guilty of not using condoms but difference is gay men more likely to get checked up, their straight counterparts just sit there more concerned about pregnancy in their conquests that diseases. |

My point is that sexual orientation doesn't cause the spread of STDs. Not using protection causes the spread of STDs.
So if couples on fab want to protect themselves against STDs perhaps they should see if the profile checks 'safe sex' rather than sexual orientation. |

I'm usually thick skinned (maybe that helps prevent against stis!) But I find that statement highly offensive. "
Science offends you?
My apologies to the Amish swingers on fab. No offence intended.

Im always amazed how often it states that STD’s can be passed on from receiving oral (woman sucking a guy)
Now most women don’t practice safe sex for this so would be interesting if anyone on here has ever had an STD from this activity |

Many STDs are transmissible via oral, particularly oral that bruises the back of the throat according to the GUM clinic nurse last time I got tested. |

I hope everyone realises that there is no such thing as 'safe sex', apart from an exclusive relationship.
Safer sex maybe, but std's such as syphilis and herpes can still be contracted even with the use of condoms.
I have a mate that recently contracted herpes even though he wore a condom. He's now devastated.
If you fuck 10 people who have fucked 10 people who have fucked 10 people you are putting yourself and your partner at enormous risk.
Most diseases have an incubation period, so test as much as you want, but at least realise it is not foolproof.

True, in life there are few absolutes. You can still die in a 'safe' car etc.
Were it not for condoms I wouldn't be swinging. They do not guarantee not picking up anything but they do stack the odds in your favour.
Let's face it. Condoms aren't sexy. They kill the mood. They kill the sensation. But..... nothing kills the mood like having to sit in a clinic to be treated for an STD, or telling your partner that you've given him or her an early Christmas present.
Another aspect that hasn't really been mentioned on these two parallel threads is the existence of 'Super STDs' which are resistant to antibiotics and very difficult to cure. |

Last check I had I asked..
Essentially. Bumming.... Lol
(well, she said it was to do with the fact swxually active bi, pan, gay, queer people are more likely to get checked so will show up on any reports more.
And more people are saying bi these days. So it a tick in a box.
The worry is those who are secretly fans of same sex interactions, normally married types. They would never get checked.
But still. Nothing to get to sensetive about...

Male on male sex will always be anal sex. Male on female sex will usually be vaginal (and occasionally anal).
Combined with the fact that the gay/bi male dating pool is smaller, that gay/bi men are likely to engage in more sex than a straight males (mainly because it's generally harder to pick up a woman than a man), and that men may be more likely to engage in riskier sex (men are generally the bigger risk takers) - the chances of a bi male contracting something like HIV shoots up substantially.
Basically everyone just needs to wear condoms
