How much would you do?

So this post is inspired by this little story that happened to me recently.
Someone(on another site) contacted me wanting a meet, and saying how'd they'd love to meet me. I replied saying that I would love to. They then asked me to travel to them(about 70 miles) I was fine with that. They then asked me to get a hotel for us, I was fine with that too. But then gave me the exact hotel they wanted that was about £400 p/n. To which they then added that I would have to leave later on so they could have the room for the night.
I politely said that it wouldn't be possible at the minute as I don't have that amount of money going free, and offered alternatives which they declined then sent me several abusive messages.
So I was wondering, do you think this is acceptable? and how much would do for e meet until you have to take a step back and so no?

"My only hope is that it was a wind up to see how gullible you are? As others have said - shocking.
"
Nop not a wind up at all, the only reason I offered to pay for a cheaper hotel was I thought I may stay the night and do some birthday shopping the day after! haha |

We'd travel and at best go 50/50 for a room if they couldn't accomodate.
We'd be happy for them to have the room if they'd travelled farther than we had, and if we had to return home.
It would be a Travelodge or Premier Inn type hotel though.

omg how cheeky you pay for the room, you make the effort of travelling to them and they expected to be the ones who slept in the room and have you leave, glad you refused or i would be thinking they might have rushed in someone else after you had left, stranger things might have happened.
Sorry to hear you had to deal with that xx |

I find this shocking. Shocking that a guy would still offer to meet at an alternative venue with a couple that had promised to kick him out of a expensive hotel room he'd paid for!

Same, 50/50 on room if we weren't able to accomm and home if we were the closest. And a budget hotel like above too!

North of The Wall - youll need your vest |
"To make matters worse they then started telling other users I was a 'time waster'. Safe to say I'm not on that site anymore! "
As youll see from threads on here, the word 'timewaster' gets thrown around very easily...
Agree with the other posts that this is taking the piss, but it does make you wonder how many people fall for it eh? |

If you had booked the room, and then left and they stayed. You would still be responsible for that room, and if they trashed it from a party etc, you would pay for it via your card... |

They were bang out of order imho, as long as its somewhere clean we are happy, and also think its fair to pay halves or book another room for ourselves to stay if we were going to be there overnight too. |

Some people will try anything. I am surprised that you even got back to them at all for wanting you to pay all of any hotel room, there was two of them and one of you, they where going to get as much pleasure as you. I prime example of some thinking single guys will jump through hoops to get a meet. Im sorry you chose to leave the site though i would of stayed. |
