If I'm planning more than two in the room, I go for the relative anonymity of Travelodge or Premier

Trivago is a good site as well.

And if you get the chance, join some of the loyalty schemes - 4* hotel with pool and spa at short notice for £45...

The Premier Inn I work for has door staff at a weekend, they check the people going to rooms, they tell you it's for health and safety fire management, but really it's to put the contractors off bringing people back to their rooms, and other guests complaining of the noise, and getting refunds!

Keep an eye out for Mickleover Court Hotel, last minute deals.

There's a few sites for late rooms, last minute rooms and bookings.
