I assume it was a lot harder, also I think the swinging community has definitely grown because if the internet but it still seems tiny compared to the population of our respective countries  |

Think it's probably the same now as it was 30, 40 or or 50 years ago (we don't back further than then in our memories).. there were just different signs and methods..am sure it wasn't called the swinging 60's without reason...think pampas grass was quite in fashion for a while  |

male half for this ,[normal k on this acount ]it was back in late 60s a pastime called wife swapping .yes was all male female couples .mainly middle class .not any single guys or females .[was not your time then gay guys ]it was largley in different rooms .the main source for meets wasa mag called the forum [honest it was]its a much better scene now far more diverse fun for all |

in the 60's and 70's it was contact mags - I used to hand-write replies to ads and send them off - a lot of the women advertising were working girls, but I did meet a number of lovely women through the mags. |

it was the best one for contacts ha and we all paid for a post office box to get the replies .no mobile phones then .open up the plain browm envolope for details the ads in forum had their own number .then you reply with a posal order payment [not to much ]and forum gave you the details for a land line phone number .it took 2 weeks to get in touch for meet but hey ho was 50years ago

Two things have made a massive difference in the way contact is made. The internet, as you quite rightly point out, and mobile phones.The old contact magazine route was painful and slow, and in our experience, didn't work. We had far more success through direct contact and simply taking the bull by the horns and being open, with very carefully chosen people. |

Polaroid photos in SAE to contact mags like 'Desire', 'Rendezvous' then long wait to see if you got a response or even your pics back.It did actually work as most people seemed to be genuine. |

Yes, but we only got on any website once we had already been swinging for 8 years.
Before that we just went to clubs...just because the internet was around, doesn't automatically mean we all used it for meets |

45 years ago my first wife and I used Experience and Vibrations contact magazines. Had a lot of success with that, but took a bit of time to get those first contacts sorted out as it all went through the snail mail. At least all the people we contacted and those that contacted us were genuine as it cost money to get in contact. |

Yes desire magazine we used that to took ages to get response not the instant ness of the internet but in many ways it worked better as there was more effort and time spent to write a decent letter maybe take some poloriods the self addressed stamped envelope lol etc it ment anyone whom went to that effort was genuine and prepared to take their time. Not just send hundred do you wana fuck texts and cock pics without any consideration. Like now! Met some decent people back then some I'm still friends with today so it worked just required lil more time and thought x |

Oh god! I remember sending a postal order or sellotaping a 50p to the response! I never got a hook up through the magazines.
It was mostly through sauna clubs for me, and a couple of occasions hanging about in reataurants next to Premier Inn/Travelodge type hotels ?? |

Before the onset of the internet. Back in the 80’s. We used one of many contact magazines available at the time. These were usually purchased from the top shelves of magazine shops. Or if you were a regular user of the magazine they always posted the latest copy to you. I do feel in those days there were more genuine people within the swinging world around than there are now. In those days you had to put pen to paper and actually write a letter including photos. This I believe put off many time wasters. Of course that’s not to say they didn’t exist. Nowadays the internet has made it so easy. So it’s only natural it makes it easier for the idiots. Besides in those days you had buy stamps and walk to a post box which would put a lot of the time wasters off these days. |

Wonder what happened to Desire magazine. My ex wife and I had lots of meets from there. It was also filled with great write ups and information on the swing scene back then |

We used a 'local' contact mag initially.Did ok with that but like so many others have said, it was painfully slow. Moved on to a glossy contact mag after that, still did ok. Still got our mags with our ad in it! At least with the internet the timewasters can find you much quicker now. |

male half agian .been watching this thread .and so much mix and match on this .back in the late 60s the only mag was called parade [showing page 3 type titty pics ]a nudist mag called h&e [that showed naked pics of nudists ]a lot of mags mention on here came much later .paul raymond owned most of them .his first ground breaking was called men only in the early 70s .the forum was a contact mag with stories .no tit or fanny pics so got round the laws that where in place at the time .hoever that was 50 years ago much better now with all the modern outlets |

Yep, write a letter, add a photo, put it in an envelope with the intended recipient written on I think the back and a stamp on the front.
Put that in another envelope with I think a cheque and post it.

The Loot ads were where it all accidentally started for me (Mr)
At the time (late 80's) swinging was something that a lot of people thought was a myth and to be honest so did I.
I was on the verge of parting company with Mrs number one and put an add in the Loot looking for a bit of extra marital dating (OK sex )
I had a few meets with women and was quite enjoying it when I was approached by a couple 
To cut a very long story short, we got together, had some fun, and I learned a lot. Including that such things as swinger clubs existed.
Within a few weeks I had visited my first club (Adam & Eve Eccles) and, on and off, I've been on the scene (both as a single and with 3 different partners) for over 30 years. The last 10 of which have been as a couple with Mrs H. |

Same here, I had some great meets too - would start on chatline, then either phone or be phoned direct, and if all went well, be jumping in the car after an hour or two and heading off for an early hours romp...
