And they say Internet 'cookies' are harmless!!
With the new GDRP, we now have to give prior consent for sites to lay a cookie, however if you say no, a lot of sites don't work and to boot, modern browsers no longer give the option to decide on a site-by-site basis which to allow and which to block. It's either allow all or block all.
Firefox version 43 was the last one that included that option. (I don't know about Chrome, Opera or IE etc) |

Either use a burner phone or just go through your privacy settings and make sure contact sharing is off, if you’re that concerned you can have your profile set to only friends of friends can find you |

Facebook, what's app, hotmail etc are all linked these days. You will need to switch off contact sharing and think about your privacy settings a lot more. Or have totally unlinked communication methods such as a burner phone. |

Came off of all social media and this is one of the reasons, do a search on eBay for something and then ads pop up about what you have been searching for. Feels like there isn't much privacy anymore. |
