Go with trimmed to start with its a decent look and less chance of spots and ingrowing hairs.

Prefer natural but at the end of the day its what ever he wants to do.....after all its not mine

Personally I quite like the fully shaved feel. Initially went with an aggressive trim but after a week or two went with the full on plucked chicken effect. Still like it.
