Worst pain
Jump to: Newest in thread
I had a rare life threatening emergency which is supposed to be one of the worst types of pain you can experience, above childbirth. The outcomes are corrective surgery or death. And in the meantime, painkillers, including morphine, don't touch the pain. They just make you care less. |

"Excruciating toothache. Given the choice I'd prefer childbirth. I'm not kidding here."
At least childbirth is something people mostly choose these days, with largely a positive outcome. Illness just sucks. |

I had complications from a groin hernia which is supposed to be straight forward surgery.... never felt pain like it I was in agony for a week.
I've had another since then on my other side and I was walking around same day and back work/training in under 6 weeks |

An abscess on my arse.... literally my ring. Called a perianal abscess... Only google it if you're not squeamish....
Absolutely and categorically the worst thing ever...... Even 10 years later it makes my eyes water.
Horrible. |

I got bit on the bottom of my leg by a ginger cat. There was no blood just teeth marks but the next day my leg blew up like a balloon and i was in agony. I could not walk and was on crutches for a week. Thats the last time i offer a stray cat a saucer of milk. |

It would be either
Recovering from an operation to remove a testicle due to cancer. They went in through the abdomen.
Or
After being knocked off my bike aged 7, the crash knocked both my front teeth clean out, cracked the lower jaw, broke my nose and shattered my upper gums. |

I had the same op. Though didn’t have complications I’ve suffered since, any long walk and I get pain there. I can’t use a rowing machine or do any type of similar exercise. |

Impacted wisdom tooth has to come out sideways. Process: slice down the side of the gum, chip away the jawbone, and remove it sideways with, literally, a small chisel and a tap from a hammer. The chips left in the wound took FIVE weeks to work their way out, and life was only able to be lived with 2 Veganin tablets every four hours day and night. About double or more than the recommended dose. Pupils resembled piss holes in the snow. |

I'm with you on the earache, it's bloody awful. I once had a rather bizarre throat infection which goes by the strange name of Vincent's angina, but because it isn't common (goodness knows how I picked it up) it took ages for it to be diagnosed and the only cure was a cocktail of particularly nasty antibiotics that made me feel as bad as the infection (green pukey emoticon required).
Just prior to the diagnosis i ended up with awful earache, thought my brain was trying to escape or something, absolutely awful, and painkillers didn't touch it.
To top it all off I was doing my music a-levels at the time and had a series of mock aural exams to attend and trying to correctly identify pitches and intervals when I was hearing a different tone in each ear because of the distortion of my ear drums due to the pressure was just a nightmare, even aside from the pain and dizziness and nausea from the meds. 20 years ago now but I remember it vividly! It was so painful I thought I was in serious danger of losing my hearing, did come close to losing my singing voice because of the infection, was very relieved when i was mended and had no long lasting side effects from either the disease or the cure x |

Ouch! Hope you are better soon.
My worst pain was when I broke and dislocated my ankle.
The pain from relocation was intense, felt like punching the Nurse who said "but you've had children"
Then they had to do it again, after checking the xray and decided it was slightly off.
The pain was so bad I puked |

I had a Cholestiatoma removed from my left ear a couple of years back, that was an eight hour op, but the pain I have now is awful as its in both ears. |

I bit through my tongue when I fell off a skateboard as a kid, that wasn't painful initially since it happened so fast, but having my tongue just move around my mouth/scra.pe my teeth during the day was awful.
1/10 would not do again |

Fractured coccyx and strangely enough, laryngitis, that was really painful.
Childbirth isn't a barrel of laughs but it's bearable, the pain is worse after when you're trying to sit down, pee, have a bath, with stitches in your lady garden! |

You can recovery from physical pain. And I have on many occasions due to rugby injuries but nothing compares to having your heart broken. That may be different for others but this old fool stills feel it.

Abcess under my tooth. Incredible pain that dosen’t seem to ease off with any pain relief. Had to wait 2-3 days for antibiotics to kick in.
It flared up because I was taking steroid medication for another medical issue, which weakend mummy immune system. |

I currently have shingles which is pretty painful.
However
Op I feel your pain
I had a shocking bad ear infection about two years ago which resulted in my ear drum bursting due to swelling utter agony.
A dry socket following on from a tooth extraction due to an abscess after a root canal filling came out left me knocked sideways for about 6 weeks of torment and agony. |

I shouldn't have read this thread - I'm having a wisdom tooth out next month and am scared of the pain
I had a back tooth out last year and the pain was so intense it made me sob! The dentist couldn't get it out and there wasn't enough anaesthetic.
It was awful! |

I have to agree...with tooth abscess I just wanted to die. Unrelenting agony. Popping out a turkey-sized sprog was a walk in the park in comparison! |

Coming round from major surgery after a serious leg injury. Was begging the nurse for more pain relief, but she said that I was dosed up to the max on morphine and the next dose would stop me breathing. |

Cats are lactose intolerant! Milk's actually bad for them. Still, ungrateful sod, but that's feisty gingers for you. |

Back spasms! I've never been in soo much pain, I was in tears on the phone to the doctor to get high dosage of drugs!
Now I take daily pain killers, as I have some form of pain everyday due to degenerative disks.
The thought of it happening again scares me to bits

Yeah but if you can't get 'away' from it,stuff like ears, teeth, sinus, can be excruciating!
Being scared about what was going to happen was as bad, luckily I'm still about in mostly, full working order |

Was in agony for ages due to a combination of an abscess under the tooth and the need for root canal surgery - Then I discovered a new level to pain!
Folks try this, put a finger on your top 2 front teeth,
then slide it up till you feel your top gum and top lip
This is where the dentist had to insert the needle for the aesthetic pre root canal surgery he apologised 3 times prior and warned me about the pain.
Proper tears, physically shaking and I came very close to hitting him! The pain was off the scale! |
