"We have been members of Fab for sometime, and ever since we joined content theft has been an issue, but it seems to be increasing. In the last month we have been notified to a number of profiles that have been set up using our pics, people have told of finding them on porn sites and social media platforms as well. What can Fab do to stop people from stealing others content and passing it off as their own. Could Fab implement automatic watermarking to a great degree? At present the site URL and user name are added to the bottom left of a pic, could this watermark be applied more prominently across the middle of the pic, thus rendering it useless to steal and repost? We already watermark our pics, probably not in a secure place to stop the theft, but we do feel that as the platform operator, Fab should be doing more to protect its users content. We have also found that people screen grab our cam sessions and that these get posted to other sites, again, what can Fab do to protect those that use its cam facilities? Other camming sites use the DMCA protection, whilst this doesn’t stop people screen recording, it does bang a big old watermark over the video with the users name, so if theft does happen, at least the real content owners can be identified rather than some sad like faker hiding behind their keyboard. Now I hear the forum police now, ‘if you don’t want it stolen, don’t share it’, yup we get that, but we also feel that Fab could be doing more to combat this very real issue. We think that across the board Fab needs to look at itself, and identify the key issues that it’s users are having and make some real efforts to address those short comings, in our experience the main gripes are: Content protection A uniform approach to pic moderation A uniform approach to trolls and abusive users A uniform approach to forum moderation These are serious issues, each with their own facets, twists and turns. It’s now 8:15 and there are over 22,000 people logged in and that number will increase across the day, we the paying members of Fab, have a right to be better cared for by the site’s owners and moderators. If you agree, please comment, maybe if we can get 179 comments in support, Fab will listen. As for us, our gallery of over 300 images has been reduced to less than 40, we will no longer cam , no longer share new pics and will no longer accept any friend requests, effectively we will stop using Fab for the very things we joined up for, it’s a sad day for us. I am sorry to read that your pictures have been used on social media and porn sites and yes as paying members Fabs should be doing more with regards to security.I hope nobody you know see these and tries to compromise you. | |||

"It's the internet. Pics get stolen. Why should the site do anything?" For the same reason Facebook is responsible for the spread of fake news and race hate. Creating a platform doesn’t absolve you from the responsibility of the actions users take using it. You create the platform, you have a responsibility to protect your user base. Sorry to ask but how would you know if your pics are used elsewhere as we have alot on our profile now I'm slightly worried as I rarely watermark them! " Others notify us, or we find them ourselves. We have been very prolific on here so have a huge friend list and thankfully most of them actually give a shit enough to notify us when our content has been spotted elsewhere. | |||

"What can they do realistically now. Pretty much everyone uses mobile phones to access the site now that has screen shot technology which doesn't need permissions from any platform. Someone can send me a pic that gets deleted after the message had been read but I can screen shot it, edit it and upload it. Perhaps the watermark thing might be a good idea. " Forced watermarking across the centre of pics with the original submitters username emblazoned across it would deter thieves for sure. And adding a forced watermark similar to DMCA would protect the cam content. Both of which can be implemented using pretty straight forward coding in the site’s back end. | |||

"I always say you get what you pay ..... So unless people are prepared to pay $30-$50 a month..... you’re asking for champagne with beer money....." I disagree entirely, I’m asking for the site’s owners to actually do something about the ongoing privacy issues that their site fails to address. The addition of code to the site back end thats changes how pics and videos are watermarked will take less that half a day to implement site wide and about 2 days to QA. Even if they got a freelancer in to do the work, at most it’s a cost of £1500 to Fab to solve a very big issue on their platform and one that has been reported many many times in the past. | |||

No, Fab is a business, and like any business, customers can choose not to use the service provided if they don’t feel it meets their needs.

Surely it's common sense that if you want improved security then supporting them is the right thing to do? "I would argue that this is the pricing strategy that Fab has come up with in order to attract enough users, knowing that a percentage will upgrade. I would argue that this is the pricing strategy that Fab has come up with in order to attract enough users, knowing that a percentage will upgrade.

"I think Fab needs to take some responsibility here and upgrade security features across the site. I’m not sure what the legal ramifications are, but with Facebook in the limelight over content creation and how it is used and abused by its members I woukd think Fab should take heed and address this very serious business. Gone are the days of building a site, collecting the cash and taking no responsibility. I’m expecting to get a forum ban shortly for questioning the very lopsided status quo | |||

I’ve seen different usernames on photos and watermarks off different site. Could be genuine but they should still be deleted and made to submit new photos. | |||

"I guess pictures being stolen, used on other sites etc etc, is pretty common, if you are using this site for self promotion or club promotion it comes with the territory, it is going to happen, splashing face pics about, asking for Fabs, accepting friend requests from everyone doesn’t help, if you are happy to get the attention then the downside to that is more people will rip off your pictures." Personally I wish the site wouldn't watermark photos at all, and I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the flip side of this practice. My face picture is kept private, but I do send it out with messages and I'd really rather that recognisable pictures associating me with the fab url didn't exist!" On videos it is a couple of days work and testing, a decent dev in London on a freelance day rate, could do the work in less than 3 days. On a £650 London based rate that’s under £2k, outsource it to Eastern Europe and you could get it done for under £500. And that’s not a lot of money in either case. So I don’t think cost as a reason to take no action is a good argument. Any devs on here fancy doing Fab a favour and fixing their site? | |||

We believe in being straighforward with the members of Fab. Right click protect doesn't work and gives a false sense of security by pretending to "protect" images. Other sites may pretend they've protected your images but actually they're being dishonest by claiming that. Right click "protect" can be gotten around in under 2 seconds by any of the following methods: Simplest: Goto File menu, Save As, and save to desktop = The photos will be in a folder on your desktop that your browser has created. OR... Disable JavaScript by going to Tools menu, choose Internet Options, Click the Security tab, click Custom Level, scroll to the "Scripting" section of the list and click Disable. Right click can now be used to save images. OR... Press print screen and the image + page will be copied to clipboard where it can be pasted into a graphics program for resize or save. "We have been members of Fab for sometime, and ever since we joined content theft has been an issue, but it seems to be increasing. In the last month we have been notified to a number of profiles that have been set up using our pics, people have told of finding them on porn sites and social media platforms as well. What can Fab do to stop people from stealing others content and passing it off as their own. Could Fab implement automatic watermarking to a great degree? At present the site URL and user name are added to the bottom left of a pic, could this watermark be applied more prominently across the middle of the pic, thus rendering it useless to steal and repost? We already watermark our pics, probably not in a secure place to stop the theft, but we do feel that as the platform operator, Fab should be doing more to protect its users content. We have also found that people screen grab our cam sessions and that these get posted to other sites, again, what can Fab do to protect those that use its cam facilities? Other camming sites use the DMCA protection, whilst this doesn’t stop people screen recording, it does bang a big old watermark over the video with the users name, so if theft does happen, at least the real content owners can be identified rather than some sad like faker hiding behind their keyboard. Now I hear the forum police now, ‘if you don’t want it stolen, don’t share it’, yup we get that, but we also feel that Fab could be doing more to combat this very real issue. We think that across the board Fab needs to look at itself, and identify the key issues that it’s users are having and make some real efforts to address those short comings, in our experience the main gripes are: Content protection A uniform approach to pic moderation A uniform approach to trolls and abusive users A uniform approach to forum moderation These are serious issues, each with their own facets, twists and turns. It’s now 8:15 and there are over 22,000 people logged in and that number will increase across the day, we the paying members of Fab, have a right to be better cared for by the site’s owners and moderators. If you agree, please comment, maybe if we can get 179 comments in support, Fab will listen. As for us, our gallery of over 300 images has been reduced to less than 40, we will no longer cam , no longer share new pics and will no longer accept any friend requests, effectively we will stop using Fab for the very things we joined up for, it’s a sad day for us. " You've raised some really valid concerns and questions. We completely agree with a uniform approach to moderation issues too. Most of the conversations we've had with people are around inconsistency in applying the rules. By the same token we understand a lot of the backroom team are part time, unpaid. It's a tough act to balance, it doed feel like there's an inequality in the balance unfortunately. M + E | |||
