The hotel normally gives you a ticket to say you are staying over so you don't get a fine. |

The fine isnt leagally binding as it is on private land and the ticket wasnt issued by the council or police. We had something similar last year and I just held my nerve as the letters became more and more threatening, but it all went away and i never paid a thing...there are websites that wil ell you more about the leagalities of contract law etc such as the Consumer Action Group etc...good luck !

Top Tip!! If its a private parking fine don't pay it! Its not legally a fine. Only the police and traffic wardens can issue fines but they have to be on a public road. There's a lot of info on internet about them. just google the company. I had one from parking eye. They kept increasing thebill with each letter but after three, i've heard nothing for 8 months. And they showed me nice pics of the car too. They have no power and rely on people paying. The letters i got look very similar to the police ones so its understandable some people get twitchy. Please just check them out on the internet first before you pay anything. |

This is very true, same happened to us. They sent a few letters threatening us, I phoned them and told them to take it to court and then ripped piss out of them on the phone. Never heard of them again.
They rely on folk being scared and paying. Don't let 'em bully you. |

as others have said dont pay, its a rip off, not legaly enforcable, you will get several letters each sounding nastier than the previous, just ignore them, they will go away eventually in search of easier pickings |

Had a nice letter from a company that patrol McDonalds and they tried to fine us 100 quid for parking 17 minutes over their 1 hour 30 minutes parking time.
We phoned the McD's in question and explained we were in their establishment, they re_iewed the cctv footage that day and have quashed the fine.
The company issuing the fines/letters are only sending non legal binding bumph, so if anyone receives any, argue the case with the establishment. |

why did you feel it necessary to 'rip the piss out of them'? |

near the sounds of the wimborne quarter jack! |
A couple of years ago, I went to pick up a friend from Victoria Coach station in London. A month previously, I had stopped in the road at the side of the station (where the arriving coaches go in) and payed cash. The next time I went the area had been changed to a "charge by text message" area. Thing is, you can only read the signs on how to pay by parking and getting out of your car to read the signs! I asked the approaching warden how I could pay if I didn`t have a phone and he directed me to the street at the front of the station.
A week later I had a nice little letter from Westminster Council asking me for some extorsionate figure for not paying a fee when I parked in the side street (don`t forget, I was only there for a few seconds and hadn`t even turned my engine off!) so I sent it back explaining why I didn`t pay. This was promptly returned with choice of either paying up or going to court in London. I chose the latter thinking that I could rake in some compensation for travel to London/time off work etc. but the case was dropped.
So even fines for parking "iilegally" on the highway can be challenged, usually successfully. |

You don't have to pay. It's contractual law between the person and the company. If you respond in person giving them your details you will be duty bound to do so. Ignore and when you get some mail pm us and we'll give you the information needed to fob the cnuts off.
Statutory law is only given the force of law by the governed that consent.
