Period delay pills

***For any people who may be offended by talk of periods, look away now!***

As a lady who likes to play, it has been a source of continuous frustration (for me) when my period lands. Having sex with your partner when on is one thing (and often I’m even hornier), but I would never dream of playing with others when it happens. Each to their own if that’s your thing. We’ve had to turn down some amazing parties due to this.

I’ve read a forum post where Norethisterone has been mentioned as a ‘period delay’ pill and I’ve looked it up. I’m curious to hear from other ladies as to their experiences of using this, whether they’ve suffered from any side effects, and if it has worked?

I have and diff brand name

Basically very high dose iburprofen

They do work much better if you have regular periods so can take before the bleeding actually begins but it does stop even once started not instant tho

I've never taken it personally so I can't give you any anecdotes, although I also researched into it after having the coil fitted and bleeding for weeks, I came across a few women who had been prescribed it for the same reason and it had actually made things better rather than worse - not sure whether that's common in general or not.

What brand name are they Hun? I’m normally pretty regular so could plan when to start taking them. And did you have to go to your GP first? x

Get a mirena coil?

I’ve not had a period for 6 years now and I couldn’t recommend it enough (:

Have done this with the pill my doctor prescribed for going on holiday...so not worth it as you feel like crap and when you stop it comes in way heavier...never again.

Mefenanic acid

I was on a naughty weekend with a fb near where my best friend lives so she Saved the day

They were prescribed to her due to daily bleeding on the implant

But you can buy them or a form of over the counter

North west ish

Norethisterone. Ive taken them but a doctor will need a clinical reason to prescribe them. I doubt the inconvenience of a period interupting play will cut it. Once you stop them you are left with the period from hell. Maybe explore other options with your GP.

I've used it. It works very well. The side effects are your periods after it can be irregular and you can get a hairy face. For a one off for holidays yes...for just a bit of hanky panky no x

I was given these to stop bleeding until a date for my hysterectomy aprox 3 months before but My dr eventually took me off them after 2months because they actually made me worse and I was bleeding every 2 weeks so I wouldnt reccomend them but I know everyone is different and they might work for them .

I've used it for heavy periods and to delay with no adverse effects. Only for occasie use though.

I found that it worked a treat but I still felt like I was on my period but without the bleeding. You usually start your period 3 days after you stop taking them and damn it's an unexpected heavy flow.

Just be prepared and don't get caught out when your period arrives

They are normally prescribed by a doctor after him deciding you need them , I don't know if "I wanted to go to a sex party next weekend" is a reason they would give them out

What on earth are they? Surely you can’t have full sex while wearing a tampon? And wouldn’t it be obvious? x

This is another reason I’m considering trying them as I can suffer from heavy periods anyway as a result of having a coil fitted. And I’m only seriously considering trying this as a one-off because of a particularly amazing party, not for regular use x

I've taken these a number of times without noticing too many side effects - I think one or two periods may have been very *slightly* heavier than usual but otherwise I've seen no difference. I did once take them for 2 weeks across a holiday though and felt somewhat bloated by the end of it.

You can get them via the online service from Boots or Lloyds, maybe Superdrug? (I don't know) but only if none of your info suggests any contraindications. In my case - because I'm old! - I was rejected online and had to see my GP, which, actually, was very much cheaper anyway as you only pay the prescription charge. I think it's fairly standard to request norethisterone for holidays, but if you suffer from very heavy/painful/unpredictable periods, some GPs (like mine) are also prepared to prescribe it.

Personally, I've also found that if I start taking it on the first day of a period, the flow has always stopped within 24 hours, which has been very useful on occasion. You then get your period 3 days after stopping the tablets.

Hope this helps.

Yes you can, they are an absorbent sponge & haven’t got in the way of our play, they can be tricky to remove though.

I've never had kids but I still have the mirena coil. If you have one kind of coil there is no reason why you can't have it. If you haven't had kids any kind of coil can be more difficult to fit because your cervix is too tight and they may need to use a dilator which is uncomfortable.

The mirena isn't a miracle device that stops periods though. It does for some women but for others (me included) you still get them - mine are much lighter and shorter than before but still appear every month. It also takes quite some time to settle down and I had irregular bleeding and spotting for about 9 months.

The tablets to stop periods work well but can make you irregular afterwards and your next period is awful. Very painful and heavy. I tried them once and said never again

I am on a pcos group

A good percentage take them

the opposite reason(to induce a bleed) fairly regularly

I didn't find the next bleed that bad but some say it makes them very heavy

Guess it's pot luck how your body reacts but worth a try

Thanks so much ladies, it’s good to talk

I think I’m going to book a GP appointment as I’ve got time before the party, have a chat about my side effects from the coil and see if they recommend anything incl. this pill or the ibuprofen based one. If I do get one prescribed, I’ll update you as to my experience with it x

Now these I do like the sound of - no artificial hormones put into my body (a reason why I wanted the coil in the first place). Where do you get them from as I’ve never heard of them before today?

Go for the wet ones. They aren't actually wet but have a bit of lube on so a bit easier to insert.

I took the delay period pill when we went on honeymoon. No side effects other than it changed my cycle around. If not used it since. For a one off I would say yes use it.

I've used norethisterone before. I got it from a sexual health clinic and they were totally happy with my reason that I hadn't seen my boyfriend for 6 weeks.

I've also used the sponge tampons before as I went through a period of time where I was bleeding on and off due due to ovarian cysts messing with my hormones. They're great.

I have pcos so irregular periods, I had a swinging event coming up and thought I may be due a period coz I had PMT, so I saw a nurse practitioner, who can prescribe, who gave me noristerone(sp?)

I've used it twice now, once to delay impending period and once to stop one, it took 3 full days to stop it and in both cases I came on 3 days after. The only side effect I had was the very first day I took it I got emotional and my abdomen felt a bit sore for a couple of weeks.

I would use them again. Dr might say no but a nurse might be swayed easier.

I’ve taken norethisterone a few times (FYI you can actually buy them online easily enough) and they are effective in delaying your period if you start taking them a couple of days before you’re due.... but holy crap do you pay for it when your period does eventually come! Horrendous experience every time for me.

I also use tranexamic acid to reduce bleeding (due to fibroids) and they can sometimes stop bleeding altogether for around 12 hours, which is enough for a club night or party, but the associated cramps are nasty.

I was taking norethisterone earlier this year. It was prescribed because I was having a few issues with really heavy periods. I was ok initially, it did the trick but when I came off them I felt dreadful and the bleeding was even worse coupled with the worst period pain I've ever had. All's well now and sorted but I hope I never have to take them again. Feel free to message me, I don't want to go into too much gorey detail on here

I've taken norethsterine and order it online. It works really well, and periods are maybe a little heavier afterwards but nothing excessive at all.

I don't hesitate to use them if I need to. I haven't suffered any side effects.

I've taken Norethisterone (Utovalan) until recently - I have to say it served its purpose whilst taking it up to the last month or so but I didn't realize how lousy I felt until I stopped taking it - fuzzy head, headaches, dull hair, tiredness, weight gain

It was to help bed in a Mirena which hopefully will do its job now but at my age I shouldn't be suffering at all

Sponge tampons!

I bled constantly for a year after having the Mirena coil fitted (BIG mistake) and these rescued my sex life. Removal is a fine and patient art, but they are so effective. I bought generic ones off Amazon rather than Beppy.

I’ve been prescribed mefanamic acid when I was much younger to relieve severe period pain, it didn’t stop my period but helped take the edge off of the pain.

One thing I will say is I decided to ignor the warning to always take with food and took them on an empty stomach, the pain was unbelievable. Like heart burn on steroids and my belly was on fire so if you use these take care!xx

Haven't read sll the replies... so sorry if this is a repeat.

I've used them a 2 or 3 times with no issues but ... My periods are VERY irregular so I can't even say for sure if I would have had a period or not without them.

Many women seem to get really bloated and have a much heavier period afterwards too.

They are most commonly used to stop periods on holiday and the like and you need to take them over several days.

If you aren't too heavy, try a beppy tampon or something similar instead. You can have sex with one in.

Nita
