Where I grew up a glory hole was the cupboard where you threw any old tat. It was usually a mess of junk piled in any old way.
In our house it was the hall cupboard (or lobby press in Scottish terms).
I walked into a room full of teenagers that looked like there had been an explosion in a jumble sale.
"this place is a right old glory hole!"
Awkward silence....tumble ....pin drop.
"We're just playing Xbox. Nothing else."
Quick cultural exchange from 60s to millennial definition of glory hole and embarrased shuffling all round |

Earlier in the year I was working round a couples house converting their garage into an office space and the woman asked if I could make a glory hole in one corner of the room! I was like "you want a glory hole as in a glory hole?" She was like yes but why the confused look on your face? Then I explained my understanding of what a glory hole was and she was horrified and she had never knew that it was something to stick you gentleman's sausage through and went on to explain she just wanted a cupboard with a few shelves 
She did take it in good humour and went off to ring her daughter and tell her the conversation we'd just had and all i could hear was her daughter howling with laughter for asking for a glory hole. They are also fond of the local pub quiz nights so were quite happy to learn of such a thing
