Is it just us who finds it abit iffy when people are after your WhatsApp/mob number early into the conversation?
The most recent example was we offered Kik instead but they don't like Kik because "it's harder to block people on it".
Is this just us being too sensitive about not wanting 4am phonecalls or tons of dodgy messages? |

If someone you don’t know insists on having your number then chances are that they want to stalk you somehow.
Most people don’t realise that their phone numbers are often linked to various other things (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Email, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Tumblr, Flickr, Gmail, etc etc etc). It’s a good way of fishing for more photos and info about a person |

"Surely it's only good practice to have a separate phone for things like this."
Why when you can just use kik? I don't want to be messing around with another phone or SIM. I've never had any issues from not wanting to give out my number. |

I think it’s just you.
I always do. For 2 reasons
Firstly it is the quickest, the best and most efficient way of finding out whether you’ll actually get on with people. 2 mins of chat on the phone is worth months of messaging. You can tell far more from the way people talk, their speed of response, their inflections and their humour than in texts. Additionally I think texting is lazy, impersonal and I’m very slow at typing.
Secondly, it’s the quickest, best and most efficient way of working out what somebodies intentions are. Are they the same person on the phone as they are in their profile? Do they speak the way they write? Nothing gets shot of the dreamers, fakes and timewasters like offering to talk to them on the phone..
Why the reluctance? If (in the tiny number of times it is needed, just block them, same as here). Shy about talking on the phone? You’re arranging to fuck a stranger, but you’re shy about chatting??!!
Plus, and probably more importantly it’s a real bonus of this site that you get the opportunity to communicate with people with whom in any other life you would not have had the chance. Anything that happens subsequently is bound to be better as a result of feeling more confident and comfortable about the chat you’ve had. It makes the next stage even better. You’re probably just wondering how you’re going to get a word in edgeways..!!

It’s not the number, the SIM, or the phone that’s important. It’s the talking.
Fuck it, withold your number or use kik, Skype, whatever..
But the reluctance to talk in my view is senseless. Yes, those people I offer to talk to may not want to, but at least I know early doors. Months of messaging take the sexiness out of the situation, and increase the likelihood of being let down, bribed or catfished far more than a 2 min chat. |

Just use an old phone and get a payg sim job done as you can switch it off when you like it works fine for me. |

"I did this on a regular dating app... Had to change my number twice...
Best to purchase a separate SIM card and have a number just for meets..."
This
And have it on at prearranged times when you know to expect a call or text. Won't get calls at silly hours then.

It's not often that I hand my phone number out. I only let certain friends have it once I've met them.
I will chat on kik, and it's easy to block a person if things don't work out. |

I very very rarely give my number out. Probably a handful of times over the last 18 months.
It doesn't sit well with me.
Did it once recently, against my better judgement. Turned out I should have listened to my gut feeling on that one.

We used kik for a long time as a way of chatting but found that out Of say 20 conversation, perhaps one would turn into something Or be genuine so we now use WhatsApp and ask for a phone number. Totally understand if people are not willing to share but from experience, our WhatsApp conversations have proven more reliable and genuine. |

I tend to ask early on.
People reluctant to give it out are (sometimes) less reliable/genuine in my experience. In the world of ordinary online dating I wouldn’t dream of meeting someone who was unwilling to give their number out so why is it different on here?
I don’t see what the big deal is. If someone becomes a problem I can just block them from my phone?
Mind you I’m speaking as a guy so perhaps women have a different experience...

A reluctance of a so called ‘couple’ or ‘single female’ to agree to the female speaking to our female half on the phone is the quickest and best way of filtering out the false profile ie sad creepy males getting online kicks and collecting photos to wank to.
We have even said to these reluctant folk to ring our number with 141 before our number so we wouldnt even know their number yet still they won’t do it because it would expose them for what they are.
People have also mentioned a solution being a cheap pay as you go ‘Fab phone’ separate to their main phone or two sims for one phone and these plus the 141 option leaves no excuse for not being able to prove a female is engaged and aware of the online correspondence taking place.
