Take it easy and enjoy.
You don't need to do anything drastic or go on a crazy diet. Little bit here and there and it'll all work out |

stretch before you start as part of a warm up.
Learn about the machines and what body part they target.
Join a gym group that covers various things like spin bike, attack etc.
Make good friends and go together.
Good luck |

Going to classes is a good way to make gym friends and stay motivated.
Try a different range of classes to begin with then choose which ones you enjoy as you're more likely to keep going if you enjoy it.
Yoga, Pilates, body balance etc are great to stretch, find balance, strengthen the core, which helps your overall health and gym workouts in the long run.
Just a few things that helped me, hope they help you.

Ask the staff for help if you're not sure how to do a particular exercise.
Always warm up and cool down.
Don't be afraid to try new things, you might accidentally stumble onto something you love.
Don't be intimidated by the other people in the gym. Many of them are feeling similarly, or have felt similarly. We're all just trying to get on with our stuff. The tiny minority of knobs are generally the only ones judging (or being judged by the majority). |

Take it easy, get routined, stay focused, have a pt session to learn what to use and how to use it to achieve your goals...
Above all dont compare yourself to others... you yourself is the challenge not otherpeople. |

Don't neglect weightlifting, free weights or machines. Cardio is all well and good but if you don't stimulate what muscle you have when losing weight your body will get rid of that as well as fat. Lifting weights will help keep more if your muscle and you'll look better for it in the long run.
Oh, and the big shouty powerlifter guys are actually really nice |

Yep, slow but sure is best. Eat normally, stop snacking (easier said than done), and exercise a little more.
Remember to measure your inches (waist Tec.) as well as the weight. As you will be turning some of That weight to muscle. |

Compound exercises, body weight exercises, if doing cardio try and do a HIIT style training rather than jogging for 45 minutes at a slow pace.
10 minutes going fast then slow then fast repeating will shed the pounds pretty quickly. |

I don't know anything about gyms but I do know that it's stupidly easy to eat more calories than you can ever exercise off so you need to watch what you eat as well. The gym can make you fit and burn some calories and is generally a good thing but not really an effective weight control. For that I'd suggest eating more soluble fiber and hope that after some time (months) your gut microbiome shifts towards one less likely to cause you to store fat. If you're already eating a lot of soluble fiber then maybe you could consider a microbiome transplant.

I'd also advise against calorie restrictive diets as they have a nasty tenancy to cause your body to go into a starvation mode and store any future excess calories as fat (thanks evolution for survival stratagems) and get a step-counter. It doesn't have to be fancy, just one that counts steps (more or less) and work your way up to 10,000 a day, if you're not there already.

You won't be the only newbie nor the only bigger woman. Pretty much everyone in the gym won't even notice you're there. After the first week you'll be fine, nerves will be gone. Just got to take that first step. |

Lift a few kilograms more each week. Run or cycle for 2 mins longer. Do that and you will make gain... Plus if you're not sweating, you're going too easy |

I was in the same boat. You'll get there, promise.
For sports bras, check out Shock Absorber. I have DD-E cups, and I love them. |

I agree! I'm a J and Shock Absorber bras are the best. I can even run without knocking myself out |

I use to be a size 18, now down to a size 12.
I understand how you feel. The more you go the more comfortable you get.
It’s about eating too. Eating correctly is more important x |

My advice is find something you enjoy as that way it stays something you want to do and doesn’t be a “chore”
3 years later and I’m still loving strongman and throwing about heavy stuff |

Definitely this for trying to lose weight. I always stay by the saying “you can’t out train a bad diet” |

Don't be intimidated by others.
Take it easy.
It depends what you're hoping to gain.
I wanted to tone up so I do high rep, low weight stuff.
I try to do 30 mins cardio and 30mins free weights.
The instructors are there for a reason, don't be afraid to ask.
Or if that fails....find the fittest guy in there and ask them |

Not for everyone, but as I was resolute to lose weight, I searched for a personal trainer at my local gym.
I now realise (I’m with a different PT now) that he worked me out VERY hard. And I started running too.
I went from a size 18 to a size 8 in six months.
I needed the guidance a personal trainer gave me. Just my two cents... |
