Red (Tempranillo) for glugging. White (Bordeaux) for saviouring. Also the white is great for sex if very chilled.

"Red for me, and I like it slightly chilled. Not conventional I know but don't knock it till you've tried it."

Not conventional in the UK but in Spain very popular, especially with the younger reds.

Room temperature can be a bit tricky when it's 35 in the shade.

Costa Blanca Spain...

We prefer red but do occasionally like a crisp dry white.

We tend to prefer Spanish, a decent Rioja Crianza is always pretty safe and there are some quite good reds from Navarra and the Catalan regions (Penedes being one) For white Spain is a bit more difficult, there is a hell of a lot of battery acid knocking about. However one shining example of top quality are the Verdejo's from Rueda. Bang on the money and (in Spain anyway) as cheap as chips. For Rose if it says Navarra on the bottle it is always good.

There are some good Italian reds and while the Barolo's and Amarone's can be a bit pricey there are some very good value Primitivo's coming out of Puglia. We don't drink much Italian white.

The French do some great whites and while we don't drink a lot of it we've had some wonderful Chablis over the years. For reds we prefer the more southern ones Languedoc Roussillon (Corbieres Fitou Etc) and Cotes du Rhone.

Some decent reds from South Afrca as well, Western Cape, Stellenbosch, Etc.

Cocktails should be banned in busy bars. Very irritating waiting for my simple ‘stiff’ G&T while some pretentious barman shows of his shaking routine and takes forever to prepare a tiny overpriced cocktail.

I find most reds rather heavy to have socially without a meal, although I can be swayed by a really light Pinot Noir.
