Personally I would only use sounds properly made for the purpose. Personally I opt to wash every thing thoroughly before use then sanitise it with isoproply alcohol and use single use sterile lube satchets and have never had any infection issues. As I tend to use stainless steel sounds unless using it with estim when I have a silicon sound that only applies the current into the last few cm of the inserted end. With steel sounds I let the weight of the sound control the insertion speed, silicone sound would need more help with this.
