Was hoping someone might be able to help me here. The local dogging spot near me seems to be attracting a lot of police activity at night time. If the police catch you dogging can they arrest you. Worried that I'd end up in court or name printed in paper and people finding out. |

Dogging, sex in public, watched by others is not illegal in itself but it can be if another person sees the act.
It is not against the law to be in an area with the purpose of meeting other people – however if it causes outrage to a witness, an offence may be committed.
The offence is one of public indecency, or public nuisance but having sex in a public place is not against the law.
So it isn't illegal? Short answer - no. Contrary to popular belief, there's not one explicit law against dogging.
However there are a multitude of offences anyone caught doing the dirty in public could be charged with and the police will take swift action if people start getting offended by late night antics.
You could be charged under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 with indecent exposure, public lewdness and gross indecency - to name a few.
According to the sexual health charity FPA, it is not a crime to be naked in public but it is possible that a naked person could be arrested and charged with causing harassment, alarm or distress if they do not put clothes on when a member of the public or police officer asks them to do so.
So next time you're obliviously caught in one of those innocuous seedy hotspots late at night, ensure you know your rights.

Heres a rule of thumb. If police accidently stumble across you they will either take no notice or have a quiet word. If they are actively going to doggin spots to clean up the area then they are probably looking to book you for something even if its dropping litter out your car window |

People I know have said that they will keep turning up late at night and it's stopping people going as they drive on shining their headlights on the area and then slowly drive around for ages. Bloody killjoys. |

From professional experience there are a variety of offences ranging from Breach of the queen's peace - which is a bit of a catch all offence, through to public order act offences, voyeurism, outraging public decency et Al. Again from experience, nod along nicely apologise profusely accept that you've been a bit of a silly Billy and away you go. What could make a situation awkward is when they record your vehicle information on a 5x5x5 form (don't ask - it's too boring to explain) and say your Mrs gets stopped in the same car for something unrelated and the information comes to light. Used to happen a lot with magistrates and the secretary.
My personal fave was when speaking to the driver in a dark dinggy lane "Do I look like a (insert criminal type i.e. burglar, mugger etc)?
Followed by standard reply - What does a peadophile or rapist look like? |

If it’s a busy hotspot the police just seem to take peoples reg numbers an see if they keep turning up again . Then maybe a letter to you saying your car keeps being seen in a dogging hotspot .. or just a carry a dog lead around |

I thought the country was in crisis regarding funding for the police? Reduction in police numbers, closing police stations - so wtf are they doing this for? |

A police officer friend tells me they will always check an occupied car parked in a quiet area. They call it a welfare check.
Probably it’ll be a couple engaging in consensual sex but it might not be. The girl could be there against her will and their intervention could be her last chance of escaping to safety.
So annoying they maybe but they are basically just doing their job. |
