ONE thing I don’t get and this is mearly an observation not a judgement, I want explained, as I literally just seen it.

TV profile - cool.

Pictures - fully naked hairy man on a bed.

I.e. literally fuck all/zero effort made to dress as a woman/look like one.

Surely this just means your bi or gay.

Point I’m making and a rule i live my life around is: if you’re gonna do something do it properly. This is an example of not doing that.

Yeah I agree, how dare they. Same as women that don't have sex pics for men to wank over.

If they say they're tv or women, they should have full make up and posh lingerie and their genitals on show. It's such a waste of time for the poor men.

To be fair, the TV/TS label encompasses a very wide range of individuals.

At one end, the individual who likes slipping on a pair of knickers and tights for fetishistic sex.

To the individual at the other who has gone through quite a trauma to live their life with gender and body in harmony.

Everyone does what they think is right for them.

For some it is very important to give the appearance of their acquired gender; for others it is not important at all.

Ultimately, this site is about sex. It is not a beauty parade.

OK there is a simple explanation for this.

On Fab there is only one choice - "TV/TS".

But in real life there's a whole spectrum, ranging from an ordinary bloke who just likes wearing girls' knickers, to full "post-op" transsexuals.

And there's a whole range of sexual preferences, from str8 to gay to "guy who would love to be a lesbian" to "depends on what I'm wearing".

I think it's all rather fun really, life would be very dull if we were all the same.

transvestite

noun

a person, typically a man, who derives pleasure from dressing in clothes primarily associated with the opposite sex.

Absolutely nothing to do with how successfully the appearance of the opposite sex is conveyed. Fab continues to make the distinction more difficult for some people by categorising TV and TS as somehow being the same. They aren't.

Agree (as someone at the hairier than I'd like to be but dress fully end of the spectrum). But as others have said, there are plenty men, women, cd, TV, tg.... [Continue inserting labels] that have profiles that are great (either by picture, words or both) and there are plenty that don't make any effort at all.

Does it bother me? No. I just moved on and find someone I'm more drawn to.

Ah love the Kenny Everett reference.

Back to the plot there's a local to us profile listed as a TV TS but the headline says "I don't dress up " so basically a straight single male.

Someone I met as a former couple on here was a guy who said he dressed up just to get meets. Wasn't bi or a CD.

There will always be some that make more or less effort but i do think there should be a different category or at least the categories should be policed a bit.

If you have nothing but male pics with no attempt to dress up and even be a basic cd your profile should be male.

Technically no, it just means someone who likes to dress as the opposite sex. The word is from Latin and literally means "cross dresser". The medical/psychological definition talks about compulsion.

I can't see any point policing these words and labels though, there's no substitute for just having a conversation about it.

Exactly what I was thinking. TV stands for transvestite - someone who likes to wear clothes of the opposite gender, like Eddie Izzard for example. Not at all feminine. Not even bi or gay as far as I know (but could be wrong)

TS is a transsexual - someone who identifies as being the opposite sex and tries to live there life as such. They would be the ones who would tend to be more “convincing” although that’s not a great term to use.

It’s different for every TV how they dress what they wear and whether to make up or not. It’s a very individual kink so to say. As regards to sexuality. I am probably correct in saying that many TV’s are bi sexual. Myself I prefer the company of women or couples. Not single men. That’s my choice. I used to meet guys but it really wasn’t my thing.

I disagree that convincing or otherwise comes into it at all. I know tv's who totally "pass" but are very content with their male gender, and conversely there are genetic males who identify as female but (without wishing to sound like I'm putting anyone down) still look biologically male.

Straight/bi/gay, whatever, similarly has nothing to do with it. Sexuality is an entirely different axis.

Absolutely. These terms are so subjective and self-assigned that the variety is endless.

I know some people are offended by TV/TS being lumped together here, but I can't say it bothers me. In fact I could say it's refreshing that I don't have to think about exactly what category I fit into. Other sites have loads of options, but it doesn't help really imho. The common denominator is wearing female attire to whatever degree, but having male genitalia. Anything else people wish to know or understand, then there is conversation : )

I read somewhere the other day that even the term "transsexual" is now seen by some as offensive, as it apparently suggests that it's all about sex and sexuality, even though it's obvious to me that in this context sex=gender.

Everyone does what they think is right for them.

For some it is very important to give the appearance of their acquired gender; for others it is not important at all.

Ultimately, this site is about sex. It is not a beauty parade."

"

I read somewhere the other day that even the term "transsexual" is now seen by some as offensive, as it apparently suggests that it's all about sex and sexuality, even though it's obvious to me that in this context sex=gender."

I like transexual because I understand what it means - some who is, or has gone through the chemical and surgical transformation.

The ubiquitous transgender is pretty nebulous. It covers a spectrum so wide as to be meaningless, and opens the door to the “cock in a frock” arguments being played out daily in the media.

Let's put this in perspective, guys would you like to labelled gay but your not, ladies would you mind being labelled BBW but your not. So please think about in context.

Fair point, although avoiding a term because some idiots choose to make a target of it, smacks to me too much of caving in and hiding. I would call myself transgender, in the sense of male gender being a psychological/social construct that I don't identify with.

No matter which category you look at, there will be some profiles that appeal to you and some which don't.

No need to complain about anyone not making enough effort (in your opinion) when you always have the option of just moving on to the next one that is up to your high standards.

The reason the term transgender does not resonate with me so well as transexual is nothing to do with any abuse.

It is because it is ill-defined. What does it mean? Anything and everything on the gender spectrum.

Such as the object of this post, bracketed tv/ts., through to Andrea Pejic, and everything in between. Big difference twixt the opposite ends.

That’s why I preferred terms like transexual, transvestite, cross dresser etc - I had a reasonable grasp of what each word meant.

Transgender feels like a mangling of language.

Genderqueer is ok, maybe I'd choose that except that so very few people identify wholly and exclusively with one gender or the other that it sounds to me like it also covers pretty much 99% of the spectrum.

I think I like tgirl best as it's more explicitly feminine and describes my life quite well, but then it still doesn't tell the whole story. Dunno. It's a fascinating topic but I gave up looking for answers really : )

A lot of people would not like "pretending to be" as a description, but it is an interesting question. It reflects the outside world, in that f2m tg and tv are more rare than m2f, but seems much more evident here. In 6+ years on Fab I've only seen one transman here and no f2m transvestites, whereas I know a few in the outside world.

One theory is that culturally it's just less of an issue if a genetic woman dresses in male attire or has unusually male personality traits, and so there is less need to self-label or make an identity out of it. Perhaps there are many women here who enjoy a traditionally more masculine role in sex and even dressing so, but with our culture being what it is they feel no need to explicitly label themselves as tv or ts. Such a female is less likely to have her sexuality or gender identity questioned by people.

"Hairy panty wearers are CD, cross dressers. But Fab doesn't have an option for that. So there you go.

Not all CD'S are hairy.I'm CD but I'm definitely not a hairy panty wearer.i shave my full body I wear makeup and dress as a woman, but I'm not a transvestite because I don't live like that 24/7.

That's a new one I never heard before that TV means 24/7.

These labels are so naff lol.

Doesn't TV/transvestite mean a man who chooses to live as a woman all the time(24/7)?? Where a CD/crossdresser just dresses occasionally?? That's why i don't class myself as TV.

Technically no, it just means someone who likes to dress as the opposite sex. The word is from Latin and literally means "cross dresser". The medical/psychological definition talks about compulsion.

I can't see any point policing these words and labels though, there's no substitute for just having a conversation about it. "

I was being glib but yes, labels are utterly ridiculous but here are my vague definitions (regarding those I know in my community)

Cross Dresser - Occasional dresser, usually dresses for sexual kicks, not interested in full femme, frequently fuzzy

Drag queen - Cross dressing purely for entertainment purposes

Transvestite - Doesn't dress 24/7 but makes a considerable effort when dressing. Typically smooth

Transgender - Someone living their chosen gender identity at all times regardless of hormones or body modifications. Some keep their gentials, some don't. Some have a complete transition, some don't

One day nobody will care about definitions. We'll all just be a bunch of arseholes

If anyone really believes that a person would go through all the hassle and heartache (and expense) of transitioning just so they could wear nicer clothes then they have totally misunderstood what it is all about.

Anyways, the op was not really on about that.It was more a complaint about some T Vs not making enough of an effort to satisfy his cravings. The obvious answer to that is 'go look for another TV then'...leave the ones with hairy legs in peace, they're happy as they are.

Being a couple where male half is a TV we therefor look for other TV's for fun. We never judge anyone but we are not in anyway looking to meet anyone who says they are a TV but looks like a bloke in a pair of panties and stockings etc. That's just not for us. We love the female form and appreciate TV's who make an effort to look feminine.

Each to their own though as everyone is different and why not do what makes them happy.

Pretty damn close except transgender covers anyone who experiences gender dysphoria, its not a sexual thing. But doesnt necessarily mean living it 24/7 or transition...Thats TS..

Always report abusive messages.

I see any abuse as a positive- it shows what kind of people they are and I'm thankful that I won't be meeting them. They don't know me so whatever they say doesn't really matter to me. They are entitled to their opinion.

Also I think the most abusive ones are just revealing how upset they are that they can't fuck us - the worse the abuse, the bigger the compliment.

Hope that helps a bit. xx

Who knows why they go to the effort of actually mailing you to say that. They don't know you so don't worry about it.

I think you look great.

Thanks Steele xxxxx

I have nearly left a few times due to the abuse. But adore the sex when I am femmed up

Hope that helps a bit. xx"

Each to their own ! .

Personally I truly enjoy a TV that has made an effort and O MY GOSH some look amazing.

I can spend hours getting myself prepared and it feels so good when I'm in full girl mode.

I agree with everyone's comments that the spectrum is to great to put under one TV heading.

Unfortunately there's a minority on here that feel the need to go out of their way to message abuse. I've been told I need psychiatric help, I'm disgusting, I should kill myself, etc, etc.

I just go with the thought process that these are all closet jobs and don't know how to express themselves so they just get angry and lash out

Ive always said that the more homophobic somebody seems to be, the more they are trying to hide something and the more likely they are to be closet gay/bi

Was personally delighted when your previous profile closed a couple of weeks back. Sorry to see you are back to continue in the same vein as before. There is enough lies, ignorance and misinformation around trans issues without your personality disorder driven input. Do everyone a favour and Shhhhhhhh!

I think they should have a tab for Crossdressers, the tabs at the moment are either Gay or TV/TS.

I try to look as fem as possible but I'm not convincing although I am hairless and with that I would be a Crossdresser.

"ONE thing I don’t get and this is mearly an observation not a judgement, I want explained, as I literally just seen it.

It is not a beauty parade."

Why not have sub groups? For the TV/TS community. If people are so concerned. I personally love to dress when ever I can. The whole smooth body, makeup, sexy lingerie, clothes, heels etc is a way I can express my feeling of sexuality. My day time life is straight bu my alter ego is as a woman with that little bit extra. If I upset people then that is their problem. I don’t go out of my way to upset people by pervading my self out in public places as I now some people just don’t get my life style

I have had quite a few who ask to meet (amazing in itself) who then respond with a string of insults.

There probably should be a division between TV and TS (although the latter should probably be just labelled female). Not sure it would help, those who have watched too much ladyboy porn are probably going to be disappointed.

When I chose my profile name I happened to jump in the opposite direction to my friend Lilly above, I went for cd instead of tv. Showing that there's no common agreement on cd/tv/ts/tg/etc/etc even within our own community.

I opted to describe myself as cd - cross dresser - because to me it's transvestite that can have the fetishistic overtones. Just my own personal interpretation, I would never force that on anyone else or expect any general agreement.

I felt that cd might best give a hint to those with little knowledge of the trans community of how I might appear to them. I'm obviously an individual who was assigned male at birth based upon the appearance of my genitals. I went through a male puberty. To the outside world I appear to be a male who (much of the time, although not full time) dresses as a woman. In fact though internally I tend to feel more emotionally and mentally aligned with the female gender, I feel more like a woman who has peculiar genitals, who sometimes cross dresses as a man.

I like to think that I make an effort about my appearance, much as all women have to do. Not because I want to look sexy for the benefit of men, but because I want to look decent for myself. I know that objectively I must look at least halfway okay, as I have a whole social existence as a woman within the general community. For me (and this is just personally me, absolutely no criticism of any other person who may lie anywhere under the transgender spectrum) being trans is not merely a dressing thing or a sex thing, it's just who I am. BUT, for the purpose of giving myself an identity on fab, I happened to feel that "cd" might be the simplest shorthand to allow others to easily understand who I am.

I guess discussions of this topic will continue ever while we are a minority and not well understood by the general population...
