Intrigued to find out peoples thoughts and the difference answers between couples and singles.

Most people see them as a lazy attempt at making contact? however, shouldn't they be taken on face value and judged as a discreet, non pushy way of identifying interest?

Your thoughts peeps

Lazy and bulk deleted....a wink means the onus is on the receiver to do all the work checking profiles.....too time consuming.

Agree, after uploading a couple of new pics this morning we received something like 20+ winks. Haven’t got either the time nor inclination to reply

It can seem to be lazy but I see it as an easy way to establish whether there is any interest from the other party send a wink and see if they respond with one before messaging instead of putting a lot of effort into constructing a message just to have it deleted...I always read the profile to make sure I'm what they are looking for before winking as well

Yes, agree with this. Surely you would be doing your "work" either way. Shouldn't the onus be on both parties to check out each others profile or is it purely a one way street?

I like the idea of the Op's thought process with this - a wink is a nice way of just saying "I like your profile, let me know if you'd like to talk". If you don't like the person, just delete the wink.

Yes but we get far fewer messages than winks so it's manageable plus there's more chance that someone who has messaged has taken the time to read our profile.

Ok....so far today....180 winks....say 3 minutes to check a profile and a little more to create a short message...that's at least 9 hours "work"....this isn't a full time job and we're not paid for it.

This works for us. Whoever winks first sends the first message if the wink is returned. Would rather have a wink than a shit one line message.

Totally agree winks are useful for the shy, who get tonguetied and not good at expressing themselves

We wink to show interest. If we receive a wink back we take it that the other party is also interested in us and then we message. We do check all received winks as well and message or wink back if we think it could lead somewhere. However some winks clearly show that our profile hasn't been read or has been read and no notice taken. Works as filter for such cases.

No I personally hate them. I dont see the point. In my opinion they are just for people who are just too lazy to try and strike up a conversation. Bulk delete along with the friend requests off people who havent even chatted x

For us, it generally prompts us to look at their profile. If they look alright we may message back.

On the other hand, we will ALWAYS respond to a message.

It's not lazy it's a way of saying hi

It gets boring writing a heartfelt msg only for it to sit unread then deleted. I've seen people ask for code words in messages.

We send winks. If they get deleted u ain't for us. Not looking for a long term relationship. Just fun

It's not dissimilar to winking at someone in real life who takes your fancy. It's a non committal gesture that signals an interest... Nothing more.

If the wink is reciprocated then you'd possibly go and chat to the person, or they may approach you and strike up conversation. During that conversation you'd determine whether or not to pursue any further engagement at another time.

In a nutshell, it's just a way of saying 'hi, I'm here, come and chat if you'd like to'.. A way of being noticed and drawing the attention of someone who may otherwise have missed you.

Lazy is far from what a wink is.

How often would you walk up to a total stranger and start a full blown conversation about how you find them attractive and would possibly like to f*ck them?

I have a general purpose 1st contact e-mail that I tailour to each profile I send it to. I don't see it as being cheesy or lazy, more like a tailored cover letter when you're looking for a new job. A wink would be a quicker way of gauging mutual interest though. Seems odd to be applyng for a shag....

Agree with this too. I’d much rather send a wink, receive one back, then put the effort into a good message. Can be a right pain seeing your message get deleted without being read

Comical.. Would you wink at someone with a bag on there head, or bk of someone's head, because just like your profile with zero pics most on here don't show there face's... Did I once say I winked at those blank profiles or blank cover photo images? Nope, I've checked and I most certainly didn't. In the exact same way I wouldn't wink at someone who I'd heard talking in a manner I didn't like, or wink at someone I couldn't see.

My pics are in my private gallery.. Just like 'winks', it's a function provided to be used by choice of the member. You choose to have photos on display, I don't. Same as you choose not to like winks and I do.

I gave a valid point for using winks, I have a valid point for not having public profile pics.. I could potentially simply screenshot your pics, send them off to a few websites or post up on social media and earn money off them if I was that way inclined. Whether it bothers you personally or not, it would certainly bother other people. So next time, before lambasting someone's choice simply because it differs from yours, maybe think about choices YOU make with the way you manage your account. Remember, it's an opinion I shared, that's all.

As a single Male you can send a msg and it could get by passed and not read. I use the wink as a “I’m interested tool” if I receive a wink back I msg. I normally msg in regards to something written on the profile, never sleazy.
