We were thinking about getting some photographs taken... in fact we almost met someone last week to have a go at it, but it didn't work out. The thought of it is a big turn on of course, but the usual worries about them being made public is an obstacle. Anyone had experience of this, good or bad? It's a question that often pops up here, but we thought we'd ask again anyway.

There and to the left a bit

I guess a lot depends on the set up involved - are you talking about using one of the many photographers on here that offer to take pics, or just a meet where the other person may be asked to take pics, or something else?

You can of course take steps to protect yourselves like providing your own SD card for the pics to be saved to, or even your own camera (if it's not a "proper photographer") although you would need to ensure no pics are saved to the device memory.

It may also depend on the type of pics being taken - boudoir style shots for instance may be easier explained than all out action shots if they found their way into the public domain.

Obviously the safest way would be to take your own and not use a third person, it's amazing what you can achieve with a phone camera on timer these days

Thanks for this, good advice. We've been down the "timer" route. A third eye might add something a bit extra is what we thought.

Best advice if you use a Tog from here then make sure you see their Veris as a Tog. Anyone worth their salt won’t keep pics for their own use. They will most likely want to edit them before you get the finished product though.

This type of post on Fab inevitably brings out hundreds of "professional" or "semi professional" photographers who have the most appalling photos on Fab. Don't trust any of them.

Scour Fab for a set of photos you like and either try to copy them yourselves or ask if they might be happy to photograph you.

Good advice here, be very cautious. I've been asked to take photo's a few times and what I've done is ask for an SD card. I use that card in the camera and after the shoot give it straight back to them. Then they have control over the images and there is no worry of future potential problems.

Thanks for this. I'm sure there are trustworthy people on here but no matter how much of a turn on this is for us, we still need to be in control.

Hello,

I photograph a couple of ladies from time to time, it really is a fun night. Hope you fund someone to help you, shouldn't miss out on the experience. We took our time to build up trust so it's nice & relaxed & no worries.

The best advice I can give is take time & build up that trust with someone & if you're not 100% sure only ever use your own SD/miniSD card so the pics can be taken & then the card handed over again.

But the trust is the best method, helps for everyone to relax during the evening. & just so you know, the photographer can be just as nervous. I've certainly taken some shakey shots, haha

Hope you have fun.

Appreciate what everyone is saying about SD Cards, but unless you’re prepared to hang around whilst the tog edits the shots he or she have taken then you’ll have to build up the trust or take your own shots. Any tog worth his salt would not distribute shots without the models agreement, quickest way to never get another job.

I agree, I often sit the rest of the evening going through the shots with who(/whom? haha) I've been photo-ing, just part of the evening, more than usually with a few glasses of wine. Editing videos though takes a much longer process as I usually film with at least three cameras to cover different angles.

However a good photographer shouldn't need to edit photos after, the model can add filters etc after as they wish.

I shoot in RAW, then convert to JPEG at the edit stage.

It’s all hypothetical though as the folk i shoot for know and trust me to deliver the shoots they want.,

Any professional photographer that does this sort of thing will have a contract/release form for the images. It would ruin him/her if images were leaked - they take privacy/copyright very seriously.

Have you thought about Purpleport? It's an online community where amateur and pro photographers and models link up. There are lots around your area... Most do paid asignments and no doubt be happy to help!

Are you looking for arty pro-looking shots or something more gritty/real? You can view portfolios and find someone whose style you like...

Haha, same. It's a great space to be in when you get there, lovely to be in a trusted friendship.

Half the fun is hanging out, sharing a drink & having a laugh.

This!!

I'm still learning but I certainly know right and wrong, I've done one light bondage shoot and looking to expand.

The shoot was my first ever and the photos I did share on my purpleport or social media for my portfolio were anonymous, masks, no faces, etc etc, I'm onto my 6th shoot and have come a long way, growing with each one. I'll edit, send to my model and then check to see what I can and can't post.

Anonymity comes for various reasons, jobs, family, friends neighbours, exes, whatever.

A Photographer that can't or won't respect his models wishes isn't a photographer and just another creep with a camera.

But on that note, anyone want any pictures taking?

I don't have my good work here because a photographers wife generally isn't a photographers friend but feel free to pm if serious.

Brief Guide:

Ask for a portfolio. If they can’t present one, then walk away or If it’s a newbie with a professional attitude, give them a chance. (No charge to you)

Looking at someone's profile on here doesn't prove if they're a photographer or not. Request that portfolio.

Do you have examples of picture ideas you like (colours, shapes, locations etc, etc) if so, share them with the photographer.

Written Agreements, you have a want and a set of rules, a photographer will have a set of rules also, usually based on Copyright. Get it in writing and both parties sign...move forward. If you feel this is a little OTT that’s up to you. This is common practice for all my shoots, Commercial and personal. No signed agreement, no shoot. Far too many people fall short here.

If the relationship with your photographor is a strong one, go without.

If a photographer starts talking about how much gear they have, walk away. You can get very good results with a phone. You want results, not a gear guide, besides its boring talk anyway.

Hope this helps.

Some very good advice here, having that written signed agreement is a biggie for both parties if trust is an issue

Well in our experience , take a 100 photo's and you find a couple thats right and looks ok, we tend to photoshop out any faces for public profiles and well as taking out the distinguishing tattoos

That’s a hideously low hit rate in decent shots. I work much closer to 35-40%

Also wortg noting that real photographers are always proud of their work and would never consider posting a substandard image anywhere.

I love taking photos of my wife, but she hates it. Maybe a sweeping statement I made, but 3 other photographer friends have the same problem.

Sorry if this isn't a dig at me re substandard images, I picked up a camera for the first time at Christmas, so if it is my images your saying substandard about I have 4 uploaded this year, the rest before hand.

If it's not a personal dig then please accept my apologies

The flowers and heels was my first play with my camera aside from a moon photo here and there...

I have 6? Maybe 7 shoots under my belt so far, still not many compared to someone doing it for years, but I have my 4th shoot being published and in print in the next week.

I'm by no means the best, but I'm far from the worst, feel free to pm if you want to see my actual work that I'm unable to post here

No experience of it but it's on our to do list....but to keep it as simple and safe for us as possible we are going to use our own phones and sd cards that way the pics are only on our devices and sure with camera phones these days you can get great shots...

That would depend on the working practices of that “good photographer”

Why would a photographer put so much care into their work to give it up for sabotaging with cr*ppy filters? Why should the client pay for that half a service? Unless that photographer is clueless to their own craft.
