It also depends on who your with... to swswingers it tends to mean normal sex or people outside of the lifestyle. To bdsm people most swingers would be labelled vanilla too.
I tend to refer to it a bit like muggles from Harry potter and mean none swing or kink related |

I'd use it to describe anything ordinary and respectable. If someone wants a social to be vanilla I'd take that as a sign to keep my hands to myself and not be too cheeky. If they say they don't want it to be vanilla... wah hey! phwoar!  |

vanilla means old fashioned connections.
you dont have kink in your life. No bdsm etc. vanilla is a term used for people who are not involved in the kink world or bdsm world. They have no concept of playing either way. very straight down the line. narrow minded sort off.
In my relationship I do vanilla and kink/bdsm. Vanilla is old fashioned values with nothing inbetween.
while in our relationship vanilla is not boring as we live on the verge on vanilla and kink. one part of us dont do kink but enjoys seeing the other who does. lol so he is not really vanilla |
