Naming & Shaming

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

We feel it's about time there was a section on this site for naming and shaming fake members.

The ones who call you, promise to meet you, promise that they are genuine, won't let you down, then block you and don't turn up.

We may be sounding a bit bitter at another fantasist disappearing, however going to the trouble of booking a hotel as they promised they were on their way, then they block you really gets to you and I just feel these fake profiles should be outed.

What's your thoughts?

Sadly i guess we cannot name and shame.

I have booked a room at times to meet a couple. An they suddenly have a poorly child.

I have to believe them.

Manchester (she/her)

It'd be abused by people who were refused a meet.

It just blows the mind why they go to so much trouble to set things up, knowing that they have no intentions of showing up.

Strange people I guess.

There and to the left a bit

Put it this way OP - you didn't turn up for the meet we had arranged last week and I waited hours and had travelled miles to get there and the hotel room I paid for was non-refundable

Of course that didn't happen but people would only have your word against mine that it didn't if I were able to name and shame you.

Best bet if it happens to you is report it to admin providing as much info as you can.

Also pays to take as many reasonable steps as you can to ensure someone is genuine and going to turn up before spending time and money on a meet

Not a good idea, people would be making up all sorts of lies about others.

It’s an unfortunate aspect of meeting randoms off t’internet for sex, never know quite what you’re going to get, or not as the case maybe!

Sorry to hear you were let down. What a .........!

I reckon the loss is theirs, don’t you. I suspect that an afternoon of hotel fun with you both is in fact Fab heaven!

It must be Thursday.

OP if you can't see how open to abuse this daily recycled idea is I suggest you do a forum search.

It will save repeating the same response time after time.

If the meets were arranged totally through the site then I don't see why you couldn't petition admin and if they agree you have been unreasonably let down then they could put a red ? on the offending profile.... Three strikes and they get a month's ban from all site activities

The issue is that Naming & Shaming could be open to abuse.

Circumstances can change for people once a Meet is arranged between the 2 parties involved. But no matter how genuine or spurious the reason given sounds, it may be viewed as timewasting by someone who, if we did have Naming & Shaming, would do exactly that! But it could be wrong!

Example. I had set up a meet with a Couple, all verified & checked. They cancelled 2 hours before we were due to meet, no reason given.

I wasn't best pleased and sent them an appropriately worded message but I never heard from them. To my horror a few months later, I found out through someone else, that their 7 yr old daughter had contracted and been diagnosed with a serious life changing illness that day.

Naming and Shaming would only have piled on the personal agony & distress. It can never be allowed in any way!

Too open to abuse.

There should however be a rating system for confirmed meets ie; No shows, disrespectful, bad behaviour on meets etc to which the user cannot hide from their profile.

It hasn't got to display the persons name just their star rating.

Yes, I reckon that's the most logical approach.

Rating sounds better. I guess our frustration of naming is more around the point of being bullshitted. The rating approach is far more sensible.

We've had many successful meets, and this one, was phone calls right up to the point of being in the same area and usual promises of being just round the corner from the hotel.

The person explaining how nervous they were so I gave him my number to call so he could see we were genuine and also thst we all suffer nerves too.

We live and learn, my gripe isn't the hotel costs, it's the fact that this person is still on the site and will more than likely do the same to someone else.

I agree. I want to name and shame you for not meeting me last week.

Do you see how easy it is to lie and abuse a name and shame system?

You never agreed to meet me. I lied.

Rating would be no better. People could give low ratings for anyone they were pissed off with. How will admin know what happened between users and who is talking the truth.

Brighton - even Hove!

My thoughts are:

A) it won’t work for all the reasons given and

B) improve your selection process and

C) get them to book the hotel
