My desire for sex left my crumpled in a heap

Bristol East

I'm away working for a few days, I come home and find a message for an incredibly fit, well hung young man who happens to be in Bristol and would like to meet up.

Corrrr, yes, I'm thinking.

Out the bath, make-up done and pulling on the first fishnet stocking when . . . my back seizes up and I'm lying in a crumpled heap on the floor in agony.

That was 16 hours ago and I'm still in agony, reduced to crawling around the house on my hands and knees.

Back pain. Excruciating.

I dialled NHS111 and spoke on the telephone to the GP. It seems pain-killers and as much movement as possible is the only remedy.

(I don't think tumbling down the stairs this morning, screaming with the pain, was quite what she had in mind.)

So my excitement about getting laid yesterday has turned into a nightmare of an existence, reduced to an invalid crawling around the house and trying to find relief from the spasms.

Do others have experience of back pain? What did you do that helped?

I'm taking solpadeine to ease the pain.

I've found that I am more prone to back muscle problems if dehydrated, so hydration is important for me. If it becomes a real problem a session with a good chiropractor has been very beneficial. However, I see it as first aid rather than a long term fix.

Hi OP ... I had a back problem last year ... you can take paracetamol and ibuprofen together ....but it depends what type of injury it is ...

I had to go to my gp and get stronger pain relief .

Cold compress may help .. ie ice packs ....or some people prefer hot water bottles on the area .. if no improvement go to ypur gp or walk in centre

I had a very serious spinal injury a few years ago. I look physically fine and function normally. It just sometimes takes me a few days to get over a sex session but I see it as worth it.

The Zimmer frame made me laugh, as I get a spinal support organisation’s magazine delivered. An ex used to call it my “wheelchair porno”

Similar thing happened to me years ago. I was newly single, working and looking after my 4 kids ages 1,3,9 and 11. ..I was just brushing the floor and something went 'pop' the pain floored me, I was lying flat on my back, sobbing for hours... It wasn't until my oldest daughter said "dads coming" that I got up.... Nearly died, phoned him, called Dr and was on anti inflammatories and pain killers for a week. It's never gone like that again thank god. But it's a most awful pain

Well sex releases endorphins and pain killers and if you are already on your hands and knees... Only joking! I did my back a few months ago and it was the most painful thing in my life. Plenty of ibrufen and paracetamol, keep it supported as much as possible with cushions and back brace when sitting so you don't slouch and potentially harm it further and warm compresses. I used to stand in the shower holding onto the hose clip thing (couldn't stand up straight without legs cutting out and me falling to floor) with the hot water falling onto the worst bit for an hour at a time several times a day. That usually eased it enough for me to walk around enough to make myself some food, toilet and back to bed before it got too excruciating again. Three weeks of that.. It was horrific. I live in a top floor flat with no lift either so literally couldn't go anywhere... My neighbours were doing my shopping for me and everything and they are 80 odd and I usually get theirs!

Brighton - even Hove!

I’m still recovering with back pain from a car accident last year. I’m taking a cocktail of painkillers including oral morphine at the beginning but now co-codomol, plus physiotherapy.

You need to find the cause before you can start a recovery.

Wherever the party is!

Wow! Half an hour into the thread and no single guys offering their massage services?

Maybe there's a semi-important football match on later that has distracted them from thinking about sex. Or something.

Hey, if I had a cock and I car I would be offering but the chest may be a bit off-putting for them I don't care about the football one iota! Those legs though...now those I could care about

Painkillers

Try to move about

I use a Tens machine and it helped me move about as though I was nearly recovered.

Definitely recommend the Tens machine.

You need much stronger than that! Can you get out at all or can someone get to you? You need an assessment before any one can comment really...

I'm a sports physio btw

Lol thank you - some of your responses helped, some made me smile lol.

I called NHS111. They advised me to speak to GP and get an assessment with two hours.

I did call GP. She called back. Went through the same checklist. Non-specific back pain is the term, I think.

No, I cannot get out the house. I can stand only when holding onto something for support.

I had a decent night's sleep. Got up. Tried to clamber down the stairs on my backside, was gripped by pain and tumbled to the bottom. I broke out in that nauseous sweat feeling. Even just trying to sit on the loo was a nightmare - I fell off twice in agony.

Two bouts of painkillers have set in and I am a little more mobile now.

Fortunately I went to the shops yesterday and stocked up on food.

My BF is on a night shift, so when he wakes I will ask him to go to the chemist for:

a) more solpadeine

b) anything else the pharmacist can recommend.

Reading all the comments here and the NHS help pages about back pain, it seems to be something that only time can heal.

I have no other symptoms that would set alarm bells ringing - tingling anywhere else or numbness or other pain.

It's just incredibly frustrating, not to say painful.

Hot and cold, yes. I'll try that. Some chilled cans in the fridge will do for the cold. Thanks

Is it muscular or nerve pain? Establish that first.

If it's muscular a couple of days of diazepam to get you moving followed by pain killers and some physio. I wouldn't tell you what kind of exercise to do without knowing which muscles are affected but swimming can be good for all over easing of muscle spasms.

If you have nerve pain it can be more difficult to treat.

In my experience both types of pain need face to face medical help.

Good luck.

I don't think I've ever had nerve pain, so I had to google the difference.

No, I'd say it muscular - something twisted or torn.

I had a milder episode about two or three years ago and, from memory, it was about 2 weeks before I was back on my feet properly.

My kids sent me a gift voucher to see a chiropractor a few weeks later and that was beneficial.

Funnily enough, they sent me another voucher from Groupon for my birthday in March.

I did not do anything with it - but I will now. I think it expired after 4 months, which means there might be a couple of weeks left before it expires.

Chiropractors are great. Can be a bit sorer after for a while but they have eased my back and shoulders loads before

An osteopath or a chiropractor might help. Also accupuncture. My back has seized down one side. It’s agony.

I've an appointment with a chiropractor a week today.

I also need to understand what exercises I can do specifically for that area of the body.

Sounds like the same problem I get occasionally. Deep muscle spasms, they absolutely floor me when they happen. I think they have been caused by leaning over a work bench the wrong height for me for years. The doctor gives me cocodomal, diazapan some anti inflammatory and something else to stop stomach ulcers from the other 3. Then I spend a week walking around bent over and leaning to one side feeling like I'm having a permanent out of body experience.

I go and see an osteopath for a month or two once I'm upright again, she also specialises in deep tissue massage. The exercises that the physiotherapist gave me concentrate on core balance.

Definitely go to your GP and seek professional help. I hate the spaced out feeling from the drugs but they really help relax the muscles and ease the pain.

Lots of sympathy for you!

Sorry to hear you are in pain.

Try this. Get a chair, dining room type. Lay on the floor as close as you can get to the chair, bum touching it. Put your legs on the seat part. Imagine you are a letter Z. This takes the weight of the back and everything is supported. If your bed is low enough or sofa, you could use this instead.

I would then recommend, once you are fit again a course of 'Rolfing'. Bloody expensive but worth every penny

M speaking. Having slipped 4 discs at various times and broken vertebrae I know how you feel.

Obviously now you are over the initial stages, so the medication route has helped.

Chiropractors are good for some forms of back pain but yours sounds if it may have been muscular

See a good professional physio and or sports injury practitioner and get a proper exercise regime to keep you supple. Yoga can help.

Hope you feel better soon.
