Winks or no winks?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Just wondered what the general concensess is regarding winks?

Alot of profiles do say no winks but surely this is just an initial nod from an interested party!!

You would not believe the amount of no replys I get after taking the time and effort to send detailed mail.

I know to some winking may seem lazy but isn't it more like eyes meeting across a busy bar?

thats the way i see winks , i send them and if interested they wink back and we can have a chat . however i do repsect other folks rights just to ignore them , i dont se it as lazy as taking the time to type a message think about it re-type it read over the profile a few times etc etc then right in the delete pile can get a bit frustrating , with winks i know they not interested .

you sound like a nice guy but we have found many here to be that nice when you do reply to a message with just a simple thanks but no thanks we sometimes get abuse back or if not abuse we do get a lot of but why ? questions etc.. so it sad to say most of the time we dont' reply anymore

That sounds like the problem. It's the numptys that give abuse when rejected that paint everyone with the same brush.

Just done a little experiment

Sent 3 detailed polite messages.

Sent 3 winks

Result inconclusive as I've had 0 replys. Lol.

If someone winks at our profile I normally wait half an hour or so to see a mail, if they don't send one I normally pop a wink back if we like them or leave it if we aren't that bothered. but if someone sends a mail we always send one back even if its to say no thanks.

we get lots of winks - we assume cos they are interested?

But most profiles that do that dont have pics of them (male and female is a couple) on their public profile - so whats the point?

How are we to know what THEY look like? Wwhy should we have to ask to see their pics if we might be interested?

In that respect winks are a waste of time... we ask people to message us if interested - with pics if necessary.

If you like them - great, if you don't, there is no requirement to act upon them or to send them.

Personally we never look at ours and we never send any out, but each to their own

Interesting profile..

Heres a tip, face pics are good (well done).. but girls and their guys want to see body/torso pics too..

you might start getting more winks of your own..

As a couple we use and respond to winks. As a single man I realised they were utterly futile. As a single woman Boho-J never even checked hers.

If people wink at us and we wink back, we expect their response to be a message next. Umpteen tens of random winkers fall by the wayside for lack of a follow-up message. Pity because some we'd dearly love to hear from. We figure that if they have nerves typing an initial message behind the safety of a monitor and plastic keyboard, then a meet is very unlikely as their nerve just wont hold up... so fain't heart never won fair lady...

Same goes with random friends invites. If they're not backed up with some form of substance, they just get filed in the great cyberspace bit bucket...

someone has taken the effort to look at your profile and winked, because they are interested in you. wink back and then start to chat.

I like to wink

all a wink shows me is that they managed to hit a button... nothing more...

but heck... maximum results minimal effort... yey!!!!

it doesn't show me that they have read my profile... or are what I may be after...

that is why a lot of people may not answer it... you are calling out others assumptions on the matter, when the assumptions can go both ways......

However I do try to reply to all messages.

Actually - we send winks when we come across others that are outside of our filter limits (men, older couples etc) can contact us if they are interested in doing so.

If they wink back we'll then send a msg.

So yes suppose some winks can come in handy.

So the page is all clear so you can which ones are new.

General housekeeping of the profile really, we prefer the minimal outlook, rather than a cluttered outlook.

Be that winks, messages, friend requests etc.

I just do a bulk delete without even looking at them when I remember but i will always respond to a message even if its a thanks but no thanks.

However on my couple profile we do check them and respond with a message if the profile is what we're looking for.

Clearly everyone seems to interpret winks according to what they believe and value. After reading most comments you can see points for both arguments. However, we chosen to block every wink without a message before, simultaneously or short after. Our rationale is simply that there's nothing wrong with using winks to attract attention although they shouldn't replace good old fashioned messaging/chatting. Unfortunately, winks get very misused as a quick/lazy alternative. We think the problem doesn't reside as much in winking but in not respecting the individual wishes. If someone says in their profile "wink at me" then go ahead but equally respect those who do not appreciate winks as a form of breaking the ice. So what does this leave then? Perhaps, to consider spending sometime reading people's profiles and finding what they want and what they dont. As someone said here, winking is like crossing eyes in a bar but surely you wouldn't just leave it at that, wouldn't you? Well, some people here do and they wink and leave it at that expecting you then to do all the chase. We hope this extensive posting may help as we agree with some and agree to disagree with others. xx

I see what you saying although we don't quite agree with the point about showing that you read the profile. We always check every person who winks to see if they _iewed our profile. Whilst some people do actually hide their _iews on others, generally we found most people who wink have not even looked at the profile and that's why never read the fact that we don't want winks. When we confront a few as we have, we get sorry or even a straight "yes, didn't actually read your profile" and of course that is disrespectful, would you not agree?

When I receive a wink I always check out the senders profile, so for the sender it was a good way to break the ice and get me to check them out.

I will often reply with a wink back or more likely a message - even if it is just to say thanks for the wink - again a good opener to start chatting and exploring mutual interest.

However as a single guy I see little point in sending them as I know couples and single women often gey so much attention that they can be swamped, so just delete mere winks.

Sorry perhaps we should made that more clear. Yes, you do open the profile in order to send a wink, no doubt. What remains questionable is whether the profile was indeed read though. If they didn't is disrespectful to the effort made to write a profile. if they read it and still decide to exercise careless arrogance, sorry but a block is well deserved.

I think careless arrogance is a bit harsh - in my case it's cheeky and playful bedevillment and nothing more - but then I guess from the recipients POV it's difficult to know what was in the mind of the sender when they did it.

If that earns me the occasional block then c'est la vie! the positives far outweigh the negatives

Who knows maybe harsh maybe not, depends on experiences and perception. At least its clear you have the power of thought to see the situation from the recipient as well as yours. We not trying to convert anyone, simply pointing that to every opinion there's always a rationale. We have said earlier that we can see both sides of the arguments but end of the day, we taken our choice on this matter same as other accept winks and embrace their use. Yes, we do agree about friend request without a message. I guess, since the thread was about winks there was pointless to raise that as well but good point. TBH even winks with a message hold no issue but on their own, say little about that person and whilst some people say that gives them the opportunity of deciding whether that person i for them or not, is little to decide when the profile has one line and no pictures. Is like looking at a blank canvass LOL xx

"so blown out of proportion the anti-wink mob, do my fuckin head in...ooo think Ive repeated myself, such a serious outlook on something trivial and friendly..and initial...I wik at who I'am interested in, I wink at lots, mix winks with messages..but IF i wink at u,its a gesture to give the winkd a little look at ur profile..AMAZING! some wink back...AMAZING some start some commuication..AMAZING some end up being meets.

get off the fuckin high horses is all I say...next up for debate:

lets block people who fab ur pics

So much passion. We made clear earlier that some people do like winks and some don't but the point probably is more to do with respecting people's wishes. Amazing as this may sound to you, some people don't like winks and amazing as it may also be to you, some people are entitled to their opinion. Their profile, their rules. If you not prepared to respect their rules then don't bother them. You have your _iews about winking and as we said earlier agree to disagree but hey, perhaps its you the one in need to get off his high horse. Forums will bring a variety of people with a variety of _iews.

and thats why I only fabd ur pics lol

yes wanking is probably more you street. Kind of figure that one out. At least you harmless that way and and act of charity can be done for anyone LOL It would be as near to us you'd ever get hahahahah Happy wanking

I can easily twist that to mean that ur happy with me wanking over ya...and non cyberly too!

w0w I hit a winner here, xxxx

heheheheh you keep telling yourself that. End of the day, you harmless and insignificant and we don't have to see the petty image of you comforting yourself wanking on our pictures. If you had a pair of balls to approach us and made some effort, instead of wanking you might being having real sex but of course LOL each to their own ay? LOL Once again, happy wanking"

any more insignificant than u's are to me??? lol- I certainly never mentioned i was wanking over ur pics, I was admiring!...OH....perhaps actually seeing my profile will help u in ur wonderment if I look for or get real sex...ur judgement was a great leap of imagination, but thanks for ur wonderful forum engagements, feel free to msg me anytime hehe x

Actually we only went to check your age as for a moment we thought to be debating with a kid. You never said you were wanking indeed but hey don't deny the thought wasn't there. Why say it otherwise? Amazingly to your super ego, you're too far, you're not my type and certainly have stand no competition to my fellow or other men that we already know. So what would you do to make me change my mind? Guess you could.....sell yourself but that would involve having to write something or you can wink. Let's see what gets you further hahahahah Of course, when you actually stop trying to play big man here, its ok, go and perv pur pictures and have a good wank, its OK, we won't tell anyone LMAO Now, I would love to continue but I'm getting bored of you and let's face it, we came to the forum to discuss something that its already discussed so now need to come back to the real world. If you want, we can send you a map to find your way? Ciao Ciao

I don't mind winks and take them as a sign of intial interest. I check the senders profile and if interested I either wink back or send a message and if I'm not interested then I just delete the wink. Ms

I like winks

They show that something has caught your attention, if the person see, looks at your profile and reciprocates then your both happy and it's like a gentle introduction.

I don't expect a reply but it's nice to get one.

Winks don't drive me mad as much as emailing someone and then getting a "reply" back in the form of a friend request.

Now that does my head in....

Ive met some lovely guys from an initial wink

I don't see why people get so stressy about them, you don't even have to look at them if you don't like them

Id much rather get a wink from a decent profile than a message from a rubbish one

I see your point and yes given the chance, there is probably lots of lovely people out there. However, a wink has little insight about the person. Some people have pictures, lots of information etc yet not everyone. I dont think anyone gets stressed about winks but about the lack of respect about people's wishes. If you like winks great and great for everyone else but I'm not alone finding winks lazy and misused. A wink with a message along is indeed complimentary and friendly but alone.......especially when your wishes in your profile says not to do it. Xx

As the female half of Sweetcorruption I would like to stand beside my partner on the issue of winks.Although flattering they also show little imagination,as a single female I may get countless winks a day so a well thought out message stands out by far and isn't that the idea to catch the others attention?

Unlike some on the forums I do not get off on negativity,I much prefer to enjoy swinging in a place where all parties are happy and have respected each others wishes.

After all its not the wink that is an issue but more so the lack of respect or ignorance.

This did make me laugh, a wink is a wink its a hello i like you, have a look at my profile and see if you like me its universal across all dating sites.

What annoys the f@ck out of me is you take your time to create a polite genuine email and they get deleted without even being read, i much prefer a wink to be blanked than an email ive taken time to write.

I like winks and try to either wink back or if person who sent the wink isn't for us send a thanks but no thanks message, same with friend invites x

I consider a wink the same as giving someone you like the look of a nice smile

I think winks are an easy way to attract someone's attention. I usually check mine and if I see someone I would like to talk to more, I wink back.

Sometimes they send a really nice message after that, other times, they don't come back or they come back with something really crass - then they get ignored

"Just wondered what the general concensess is regarding winks?

Alot of profiles do say no winks but surely this is just an initial nod from an interested party!!

You would not believe the amount of no replys I get after taking the time and effort to send detailed mail.

I know to some winking may seem lazy but isn't it more like eyes meeting across a busy bar? "

It doesn't really matter what you think about winks. If you wink a profile that says they don't respond to winks then why be surprised or even question it?

from the replies it looks like the winkers are mostly men!! personaly i'd love to see some more code word's in profiles that way a simple "wibble"+ would you like to chat in a quick message would get attention!! if it's hidden in the prifile then it had to be read to find it but a reply is just as quick as a simple wink

Hi,

Its the male counterpart of _weetcorruption here. When we first wrote in this thread we thought it was very clear that winks do not represent an issue as long as the person receiving them is happy with that. What it is unacceptable is that if anyone chooses not to accept winks (especially when that is written in their profile), their wishes should be respected. When despite that, winks are sent disregarding the advice, then it is the choice of the individual to act accordingly. Some will ignore them, some delete them and some people block the individual. Just like winkers have the ability to ignore your wishes, you can choose to do what you wish with their so called "Attention". Fact is, that winks are used and abused. Someone here said that they prefer to wink because they write and get deleted. True, its the chances you take but like us, theres is a lot of couples who would never deleted someone sending a message even if it was a polite no, thanks. Just a polite piece of advice. Bother to read profiles. In many cases, the clues are out there. xx Happy Swinging

It is truly refreshing to see a male who instead of getting on its high horse or shit stir against those who don't like winks, value the power of being social and writing. Your point was absolutely spot on.

Again, another good point, use it if its there, however, choose the right people to use it and as you said, don't abuse it. LOL
