Have you ever catfished/misled someone?

Sooo, I’ve just met up someone that turned out to be a catfish. They apologised and seemed to think that by apologising I would be understanding and continue with the meet regardless.

So, I’m trying to understand why someone would do this? Has anyone on here ever catfished someone or misled them in order to get a meet? And does it ever work?

Is it done through insecurity? I’m trying to wrap my head around it.

I've had a couple of men that are a lot older than their pics and age on here. It was them though, so not actual catfishing.

Am I right in thinking it was a man pretending to be a woman?

I've chatted to many men who had taken pics from websites too. They are very obvious.

I have. A couple who posted pics that were definitely not them... Age does things to a body, but you don't lose a foot in height!!!

Not been catfished as such but at 5ft 11 im constantly surprised by the amount of men over 6ft that I'm taller than haha..seriously do they genuinely feel that bad about it, it's kind of sad they feel the need to lie

Haha same here. I met someone that was meant to be 6ft. In reality they were closer to 5ft5. 10 years older than whoever was on their profile. And a totally different body type too...

Pretty sad really. I’m glad that I never gave out my address and met in public first.

It’s weird behaviour. Are these people trying to exploit the kindness of others? Just hoping that the whole thing will be so awkward that nobody will confront them? Or perhaps feel sorry for them? That’s the impression I got

Not on here but on a dating site. Someone stole my pics and used them to catfish guys.

I wondered why people kept messaging me telling me I never replied! Lol.

Luckily a friend found the profile and the site took it down x

I probably look a lot fatter in real life. It’s amazing what a carefully angled camera can do to hide the mummy tummy lol. I guess that makes me a catfish!

I have to wonder if they feel the need to live up to some hyper male version they aspire too, or just perceive what others want as being what they should present themselves as. A part of me does feel sorry for them as without the lies we could have probably had a great time.

If we invite someone to step however briefly into our lives and it starts on a lie they can toddle right on thank you very much..

Although that being said the sheer amount of google reverse imaging i have done on males verified by couples i know are real and there pictures turn out to be some obscure actor beggars belief the old hair cut catolouges are a favourite of the fakes too haha.

I didn’t know what catfishing meant til the other day when a guy told me it happened to him. I don’t get it at all! Why set yourself up for a fall if you’re actually going to meet?! The exact reason I have a full body pic in my Asda pants is so I can’t be accused of false advertising, as it’d be mortifying if they backed out in real life!
