Hi guys I recently moved to Holland to start of a new life all by myself, I’ve decided to leave everything behind me and start all over again.. yes it was really hard in the beginning but I eventually got used to it and I’m actually enjoying my time here, however today in south of Holland they’re celebrating carnival .. I had a great time and loved socialising with the locals.
As the night ended on my way home I was approached by 3 males and they asked me to hand over my watch and phone I refused and one of them got really physical and pushed me against the wall.. while the other was going through my pockets, eventually they managed to grab hold of my property and I started screaming for help.. one of the males didn’t like that and decided to pull a knife out on me and tried stabbing me in my belly but he failed and stabbed me in my arm because it was in my way ... yes it’s painful! Called the police that shows up an hour later saying that there is no cctv and no witnesses and that it would be pointless pressing charges I agreed to go to the hospital where I was charged almost 98 was euros for 5 stitches WHAT THE HELLL!
Oh NHS I love you even with all your flaws?? |

I'd prefer to love not getting stabbed. |

I once broke my arm in Eindhoven and I was charged €70, but in and out in an hour. The invoice had “Slagweekender” written on it which apparently means weekend supplement |

If you're a British citizen, there is a form you can get that covers all medical cost whilst you are in Europe. Covers holidays as well as those who live and work. I lived in Spain 10yrs, used their health care occasionally and never once had to pay.. and I needed an operation to stick my foot back on my leg.
Go to postoffice next time you're in the UK and request it. You'll be covered by NHS that you've paid into.
Sorry to hear about your incident. Cities like Amsterdam are riddles with gangs because of the decriminilised drug laws. If it were legalised Europe wide, or illegal Europe wide, the place wouldn't suffer so much crime. Unfortunately they've been operating so long that they know their local patches quite well.
"Amsterdam ain't a nice place when you're off your face!"
Get well soon. |

When in Amsterdam about a year and a half ago bu friend got e-coli from a well known burger place..
He was terminal with leukimia, we called a ambulance they wanted €700 cash to take him... and refused us a stop at a ATM. We had to get a taxi with him unconscious.
Once at hospital everything was free due to health card but minor injuries and emergency transport cost in the Netherlands!! As much as I love the Dutch the position we were put in means I won't be visiting ever again.. |

Yay! You got it. I have immediate family who still live there and I travel once a year without travel insurance. Credit card covers flights if they're cancelled or delayed.. the form covers medical. Only takes a week or so to get processed and is valid for 3 or 6months I think.. can be renewed infinitely. |
