They are if you are a single man I think
I've winked people and they have winked back
But if I was searching for a man and they only sent a wink I don't think I'd bother with them |

surely it breaks the ice and indicates interest and invites the other party to view and hey ho start chatting. but I don't think many view it that way and ladies find them annoying do they not ? |

I can check out a profile and wink back if I'm interested. "

That's how I use them. It's not that far removed from real life.. a little mutual eye contact and smile across the room.
A return wink means I've pretty much got the Green light to say "Hello" Without causing mass offence and gives me some indication if I'm likely to get a response.
The ones who don't use it that way.. probably aren't my type, nor me theirs. |

"If I get a wink I run around the room blushing
But I have used it to good effect sometimes and people have responded but most of the time it’s a waste. "
If I get one in real life I blush - big time I can't wink back either, I end up blinking... or looking like I'm having a stroke. |

Think you are right not many view it that way, it is also a good indicator if the person that does the Winking is actually a reader. Our profile says we dont do winks , but still they come...
just an observation |

If we do wink back we still expect a decent message from the winkee though |

"waste of time foe me...never look at them anymore because when i did, they were always from people mlies away so pointless to me.."
Sometimes it's worth travelling to meet someone special. I did and she was pretty special.
If you can't, you can't, if you can, it's worth a go. |

Oh goes without saying..
My rule is.. the first person to wink.. is the one who must send the first message if they receive one back.. Well frustrating if I fancy the pants off her and she doesn't message for a while.. I'm kept on edge.. which is part of the fun.. I like a good flirt.. anticipation.. build up. |

I will say though, I did message someone off the back of a wink, when I realised this person had winked me, when I nosed his profile. So they are not always a waste of time OP . |

Just like to add, just because I don't mind winks, doesn't mean that I will respond if you're too far away!!!
Think before you wink! |

We are sick of sending a nice message back to couples that wink. We check out their profile and if its what we are looking for a nice message back, but alas no more, as 99.9% of the time we never get a reply so we have now put a stop to messaging back. We only sent a quick message, who we are and a nice hello, nothing heavy or demanding as that's not what we are about. |

That's how we use winks too and saves people moaning about deleted/unanswered messages. |

It may not work everytime and I can understand some people disliking it.. but it works ok for me I find.
I don't send an essay.. just a couple of lines to test the water.. essays come later if we click. |

For me a wink is only a waste of time for the sender if their profile is shit and/or they have completely ignored mine.
If they have made an effort with their profile, so I can see if they are the type of person I'm looking for, and they are the type of person I am looking for, then I may respond.
So it all depends really. A wink on its own is a potential waste of time, but coupled with a decent profile could lead to a lot of fun |

I agree curvyalways1 I message back if someone winks at me - say thanks then pay em a compliment but chivalry or just plain good manners seems to be wasted |
