"Great Ormand street hospital to return all donations.. why.. just keep their money and help the hospital?!
Sigh! "
Because they have made a decision that being associated with events like this will taint their image and damage their fund raising efforts in the long run. |

That's really sad. I think they should have kept the money and made something good out of it. |

They obviously think that it would affect future donations, as well as their reputation..the reports from the event are way beyond the odd tasteless remark, they are pretty full on, and pretty revolting, and i can't imagine any reputable charity, especially one as high profile as Great Ormond St would want to be associated in anyway with it. |

They should give me the money then. I'd be fine with all the flack and I'd make a private anonymous donation to the hospital to make sure they got the lot. |

I've just been listening on Radio2, lady who was undercover as a hostess.
And a women who wasn't even there, argue it out.
Quite amusing!
But on a serious note, it's disgraceful that in this day & age, some men still find this kind of behaviour acceptable, and saddening the hospital will lose these funds but I can totaly understand why they've taken this action.
Part of me hopes, there are other decent benefactors out there who will now step up & donate to even out the loss |

i think you're right, and due to the publicity, i think that actually the hospital may see a sudden upturn in regular donations from the public because it has highlighted their campaign..and any right thinking person will be disgusted by the reports from the event. |

just been reading about this, and Great Ormond St have said they are returning donations from previous events, but that they were not involved or due any money from this years one. And they are only one of several charities that have started to return donations |

"could have donated it through a third party"
how would that work? its a fund raising dinner...its not going to be a secret who they are fund raising for...on this occasion the hospital werent due any of the money, but are returning previous donations from this particular event, but plenty of other charities were. Their reputations are pretty much all most charities have to raise money, none can afford to be smeared by something like this.. |

Men Only events are shocking in this day and age.
Business men having a shin dig. Patting girls bottoms. Girls who are usually paid very very well for this type of event ( seen comments from girls who worked their)
Only loser here GOSH |

Some were groped, which they certainly didn't consent to.
However, the wider issue is its all a bit icky for women to be used as bait for wealthy men and that any man with any decency would run a mile from that sort of thing. |

Nope. Not at all. Not in the normal
Work place.
This event from what I’ve read (and no 100% proof this is correct) was attended by hostesses that are used for these type of events.
One said it’s like a stripper refusing to take her clothes off.
So at the end of the day. These girls knew what type of event this was and could have turned down a ‘good earner’
I think what your talking about is totally unacceptable. I agree. |

They were paid £15 a hour. Hardly a sex workers rate.
I am sure they were quite aware they were there to be leered at. I am equally sure they didn't sign up to be groped. If they were up for that, the going rate is far higher. |

So listening to this on tv. The hostesses were booked and told to wear matching underwear. Surely any sensible woman would see a red flag and back out of this. Guilt lies on more than one group of individuals here. |

Yep, as I say it's clear they were there to be leered at. However, the amount they were paid and the venue would not suggest it was a prostitution gig.
But that's what some of the men seemed to think... |

The news articles seem to be putting all their horror against the fact it was a men only event, rather than stating it was sexual harrassment. |

A place that allowed men to sexually assault women.
I see the women were encouraged to drink and were intimidated by the organisers to be friendly and not leave the room - unless they were going out with one of the men to his room in the hotel.

Wherever the party is! |
To shed some more light.
Lots of different types of women worked at this event. From students, actresses, others from "regular" professions through to those who usually work in the sex industry. Some women have done this gig year after year and knew the score. Others would have been their first time and may or may not have been horrified at what they were getting involved in.
I don't use the phrase "may or may not" gratuitously as some of the women who worked there saw it as a cheap party and some actually benefitted professionally from working this gig.
The only problem I see here is that not all the women knew what they were getting in to when they signed up for the gig. |

Not seeing red flags is not 'guilt'.
Women should be able to go to any kind of event, dressed however they want, without expecting to be groped against their will.

Let’s hope that the hospital benefit from other areas as a result x |

Yes they are very concerned about their image. Some years ago several of their doctors warned the management that G.O.S. had a potential tragedy on their hands because the hospital was not doing its job properly when it was responsible for childcare services in Harringey. Shortly afterwards the Baby P scandal broke and the senior management spent a fortune trying to put legal gags on those doctors and made life hell for Dr Kim Holt who had warned this tragedy was likely to happen.

My guess is this was a media setup. The event happened every year but this time the media put some undercover people in to produce a story because of the current sexual harassment climate. |

Correct.
To be fair, I wasn't at the event and I suspect nobody commenting on here was either. Personal experience informs me as to what liars the media can be and how they can grossly exaggerate. Basically, it's getting very difficult to truly judge anything the media says - because the profession is so full of liars who are trying to earn as much money as possible from sensationalism |
