When or if you tell teenagers what you do?
Jump to: Newest in thread
In our opinion there are certain lines you don't blur between parents and children. Its great to be open about sex but no need to make it specific to yourself.
We found it useful to establish early on with our kids that we had a private life as individuals separately to them and it was none of their damn business what went on in it. |

The best we heard:
"Quiz night!"
Lots of pub quizzes, and if you have a 'team' you might reasonably travel out to other places (there are pubs and quizzes all over the place!). Of course you're going to go out a bit dressed up, and likely home late.
They're not going to drill you on the specifics if they know it's something is mundane as a quiz. |

"We have 2 teenagers daughters.always coming up with stories as to where were going or doing.is there ever a right time or age to say anything or just stay quiet."
This possibly the most cast - iron, obvious decision you will ever have to make. Take a million, multiply it by eleven hundred million, and that’s the amount of times you need to never tell your children you’re swingers. What a way to monumentally and catastrophically rupture their perception of you. |

"no child wants to know anything at all about their parents sex life, ever!"
This!!
Normal people really don't want to know about other people's sex lives. |

Two years ago my daughter who was 18 at the time asked about the club we go to with our friends
I just said it’s ‘just a club’
A couple hours later .... ‘is it a swingers club ???’
Turns out 3 months earlier she had seen Mr inked in the Daily Mail When he was bloody papped at Swingfields
She had known all that time and didn’t know how to say us lol |

try telling them you have joined the local conservative party, try to talk to them about it, and ask, several times, if they'd like to come to the next meeting, where there will be intersting speeches! they will never ask you where you're going again.. |

We're the same, forever establishing a cover story for our antics! On the one hand, we don't feel our kids (who are both young adults) would necessarily want to know that we have sex with other people, but on the other hand I'd actually prefer to be honest with them. Not being honest (about anything) doesn't really sit well with me, and I'm not ashamed of what we do. There's also a part of me that would like to open their eyes to the fact that there are different ways to enjoy sex, and a relationship. I guess the way forward will be led by them ~ if the subject ever comes up, and it feels like the right time, then I'll be open and honest about it.

Nice idea, but risky. What if you turn out to have a young-conservative on your hands? Not only will you have that to deal with, but now you'll actually have to join the party and go along to meetings... *shudder* |

Great idea, but I don't think this would work with my son. Being a very switched on lad, he's interested in politics and current affairs...knowing my luck he'd ask to come along one night so he could debate the state of the country with the other members! How the hell would I explain that!?

Teenagers? Never. They may seem able to cope with the news and are all grown up but human brains don’t finish fully developing until early twenties. Even then I’m sure they don’t want to know what your sex life entails.
I told my 30 something children I’m in the lifestyle, purely because I’m single and one of them has a high profile job. That sort of news does not need to be discovered by accident. |

Definitely echo what others have said.
If it's any consolation, I feel your pain - I'm currently living with my parents and while they're not nosey, they do ask where I'm off to, just out of general conversation! |

I guess it depends on how honest you have been with your children in general I've never lied to mine not even about santa and the tooth fairy.
If we go to clubs we go when they are not with us.
We say if asked we've seen friends as we have. |

We go out dancing to a non-specific club. Our teens can be quite canny so I wouldn't be surprised if they figure something may be up at some point. However they absolutely don't want to know and we have no desire to tell them. I suspect it will turn into a don't ask don't tell situation. They'll know there's something they don't want to know going on and so will make sure not to ask. |

"My friends kids found out from looking at the internet history.
This is why our kids have their own computers"
I keep all the swinging related stuff in the Secure Folder on my Samsung phone. The feature used to be called Knox and it's like a whole extra secret phone inside your phone. Finger print / passcode locked and it's encrypted so even if someone steals or finds your phone they can't get at the contents. |

My kids know I go out to the pub. Sometimes go to a friend's after, which is why I take alcohol with me.
I don't think teenagers want to know their parents have sex with each other. Never mind with others. |
