Use of 'so' or 'when' to start a sentence or post….. evidence of 'sheep-ism'?

but thats how language develops..it is developing and changing much faster in the last few decades because we all see, hear, and meet more people than ever before , so logically we will change the way we speak much more quickly..

I must admit using "so" to start a sentence does grate on me. But there's much worse out there.

For example when describing a situation or someone I hear "it was like that", "I was like that" then doing the action.

Bloody hell im getting old!!

"Use of 'so' or 'when' to start a sentence or post….. evidence of 'sheep-ism'?"

Labelling things as an 'ism'.... Evidence of pretension?

So there must be a better term than sheep-ism?

"So" is just the modern version of "err".

Yes, languages change and evolve. However, it smacks of a lack of originality when people use a formula they think sounds 'cool' but is just them following the crowd and sounding a little bit silly because of it

Not in the way that it is used, or misused by many people at the moment

I remember hearing it in Friends. Isn't it just an Americanism?

it's also far more unconscious than that...we repeat speech we hear around us , sometimes maybe because it makes us feel we fit in with our peers, but far more commonly, certain words and phrases just get picked up via repetition..otherwise we would all still sound the same as we did generations ago..i get annoyed by certain phrases and words, and i remember my mother doing the same with me, but language is fluid, always will be..

That's where most of the sillyness comes from

Language evolves, if most of us don't follow we wouldn't understand each other.
