Hi we need some advice after coming out of the menopause libido has fallen. Other than the traditional HRT does anyone know of any good hormone or other stimulant that could help please. Genuine replys only no stupid so called clever responses as it is a genuine concern and doctors tend to be a bit rubbish on the topic. Thanks |

If you don't want traditional HRT there isn't another hormone that would help apart from testosterone maybe but I'm no expert.
I'm not a great believer in stimulants as such they tend to just work on one part of the body rather than the whole. Can you identify any cause such as pain, dryness, body changes? |

have you tried the gp? nowadays many are far from 'rubbish'...also practice nurses can be very good if its just a bit of advice you are after.
any hormone or 'stimulant' that is actually going to work is likely to be something you cant buy over a counter, and need a prescription for anyway. |

One of the female doctors at our practice is excellent on the subject of menopause. I asked the practice nurse who was the best one to see and she recommend her and a male. I chose the woman because I feel more comfortable discussing things with her. She's very open and non judgemental. I have seen GPS who really aren't interested though. |

another reason its a good idea to go through a gp is that they can do a proper hormone level test..sometimes it can be something as simple as low iron rather than hormone related.. |

I'm no expert and can only say what I've learned from experience.
You have to slow down and realise that your body isn't the same, it's not going to react in the same way or as quickly, it needs more time. Mental stimulation is as or more important and foreplay becomes even more significant. You can enjoy being sexual but need to take the pressure off yourself to be sexual in the same way you were before. Find a lube that suits you and use it even if you think you don't need it at that moment.
The best advice my gp gave me was that menopausal women should be sexual ( and by that she didn't necessarily mean penetration) every day. It increases blood flow to the genitals and keeps them healthy.

I’m pretty much through the menopause and my libido is through the roof. I’ve not used any hrt and I’ve been lucky that it’s not really bothered me much other than some weight gain.
I think sex is the answer. The more you have the more you want and sex helps to thicken the walls of the vagina which helps combat dryness. Lube lube and more lube. I use loads of it and actually it’s quite fun getting wet and slippery. I also use the internal moisture pessaries but don’t use them before playtime. They can make it a bit erm..... lumpy..... and no one wants that.

It's lovely to see women discussing this subject so openly and positively!
I'm perimenopausal, and apart from mood swings and hot flushes, loss of libido was the symptom I found hardest to accept. I saw a female GP who specialises in women's issues, and she's been very supportive. I opted for the HRT patches which have helped enormously, and from what I've read, are quite safe to use these days. You can stay on HRT indefinitely as long as there are no health concerns, so it might be worth considering continuing with treatment if it suits you. There are other things you can use too, oestrogen gel or pessaries. Eating food which is naturally high in oestrogen, such as soya can help too. A quick Google will give you lots of information, but a good GP is definitely the best option in my opinion.
Something else which is worth considering, is that your libido may naturally be lower at this time of year. Our bodies tend to slow down during the darker months, and you may notice that you feel more interested when Spring starts to show itself.
There's a lot about menopause in the media at the moment, raising awareness and bringing the issue out in the open, so that women can talk more openly and get the support they need.
Good luck, I hope you find something which helps. Whatever you decide, you don't have to suffer in silence.

The problem here is that every woman has a totally unique experience so it is difficult to give/share advice.
From my experience (I’m post menopausal 2 years) I didn’t realise I had been suffering peri menopause fir so long.
I was a vehemently anti HRT. And tried various alternative therapies. Until I thought enough is enough. Flushing all the time. Not sleeping. Mood swings. No libido. Just had had enough.
HRT has literally changed my (our) life.
Everyone has to make their own choices. But for me it’s been amazing. Xx |

I love you ladies so much! Thankyou OP for putting the post up!
In the past, the only mention of menopause was the scare stories "Ooh just you wait! It's terrible"!
So it's wonderful to use our forum for such positive advice, and to be reassured there is sex after menopause.
Some really great advice here. Thankyou x |

I’ve been going through it for 3 years. My libido is ridiculously high!!! My main thing I’m struggling with is the hot flushes, they are so bad I’ve almost been passing out. Saw my gp, male, and he’s given me tablets which are working a dream!! I’ve tried hrt which didn’t agree with me, and also the pill but that just made me bleed constantly for 6 weeks, so good when you want hanky panky morning, noon n night and more if you can lol
Tell you what, give me puberty any day of the week, it’s easier than this lol
