There and to the left a bit |
I have been guilty of doing this - but it's usually if I have something specific to say to the person concerned that would not add anything to the thread and/or is not for public viewing and/or I'm coming to the thread late and want to say something in response to a specific post that was posted ages ago, so replying and quoting it would look odd.
I'd not do it as a matter of course though - although guess there are some that see it as a way of starting to message someone. |

Maybe they are shy and want to express thier deepest feeling for you personally rather than in the thread but I know where your coming from. I expect some would call the forum as an ice breaker to directly message someone. I know I’m more inclined to open a message if it contains the thread title in it over something like “wow” or “ I want to burst you open” |

What I have to say is for the person I am pming only.
I have pmed stuff like nice 1 you shut them down and similar. Posting that in the forum would not help matters. I get a lot of pms saying well done to me as well.
I have also seen where a poster is getting grief. One happened the other day and i posted in the thread itself backing the OP. The grief continued so i went to PM the OP and we had a chat off thread about the subject. No ulterior motive just to discuss without others butting in.
One pm I recieved recently was on a very strong subject matter. They did not want to post publicy there thoughts due to fear of a backlash. I had posted in the thread a view that was close enough to theirs to trust me. Quite upsetting to me that people can feel that scared of posting. |

Doesn’t bother me. I see forums as an ice breaker too. I’m flattered if someone messages me privately. I don’t see the issue. Not everyone wants to carry on a conversation publicly so I’m the same sense, why force them too. Not everyone is as open as others and may be shy to chat publicly to one person in particular. If you don’t like it. Don’t reply. But be a bit more open and friendly. It goes a long way. |

"Cos they wanna get in your knickers.
Normally respect your viewpoints but I don't think that reflects everbody at all."
I didn't suggest it was everyone. It's just one of many possible reasons. |

Privately replying to forum posts can't bypass filters
If they're blocked they're blocked. If it's such an issue block men from sending PMs and don't worry about it |

Most of them, maybe.
But some genuinely want to say something about the post to a specific person.
I've done that a few time, regarding religion and gender-label issues.

"Just to clarify, the OP isn't a rant just wishing to clarify reasons as to why. " well I’m sure there are lots of reasons. Want your attention. Get to know you better. Get in your knickers lol. Agree to a post. Disagree to a post. To shy to focus one on person in public. Others maybe.

It can be a great way to break the ice.... so many people are caused of copy and paste messages so do not get given a fair run.
By making contact on a common theme it might just get you recognised as being a genuinely nice guy.....
(Disclaimer.. it might not either) |

I surmise it's usually down to, depending on thread / message.
Not wanting to be seen to piss up lamppost.
Don't want to show favortisim as it can result other women 'friends' getting angsty.
They like opinion given but as it's not in the majority don't want to be seen in public agreeing.
Wanting a way in to chat. |

Nothing to discuss, they should stop "
Yeah, agree to an extent , always take forum for general laugh and banter ,nothing more , it would depend if the guy was trying to use a thread here as an opening or if he saw you're profile and was genuinely interested in you , best judge of that is you from his message etc , if he's just being a knob el block solves it |

They might wanna fuck, or they genuinely want your opinion on the said subject. I've gotten msgs like that before, and I've sent a few too. It's sometimes nice when a convo starts like that, it starts all calm and could stay there or could lead to other places. |
