What a nightmare the past few weeks have been...
My boss calls me into his office, which was a bit odd as I didn't think I'd been doign anything wrong and sits me down. He's got a piece of paper with him..
"I've been handed a list of websites you've been looking at from your works PC...."
My heart sank.... I knew what was on that paper...but pretended not to initially.. "Really?" - looking rather worried.
"yes, and lets just say they dont seem to be work related." 
I coudlnt' argue, and didn't want to insult his intelligence even more.
At this stage I'm so embarressed... I mean what do you say? So I thought - ok I'll try and explain.
I started to explain how we'd got into it after a bit of a d*unken fantasy from the wife. She'd said we shoudl try it and thought lots of people our age did it?
Part of me was secretly hoping he would understand - hes older than me, a man of the world - surely he'd had the same thoughts?
But no... he just stayed there stern faced as I tried explain it away.. 
I was just making things worse...
He said that as long as I didn't visit those websites again then that woulld be the end of the matter and that this was just a verbal warning.
I took it as such - but it didn't end there...
Somehow people found out... it wasn't long before there was sniggereing behind my back, people I've known for years would suddenly change subject as I walked into the coffee room...
I've had enough - I knew there would be stigma attached but never realised how much!!
Forutnately my parents have been at it too for the last 12 years so we've been able to confide in them but you still feel like an outcast.. 
I'm struggling to go to work at the moment and considering jacking it all in.
So has anyone else been caught lookign at caravaning websites at work?

First rule: Don't use web sites you don't want the office knowing about. If you do not control your internet connection, then you can be sure someone is watching the traffic.
Even service providers log your access against your account. That's why I use very high levels of security and access. I let people know only what I want them to know.
As to work place experiences. Yes, had a few. We had a couple live and work with us for 6 months, yet no one in the office cottoned onto all the flirting between our foursome.
Had another couple who moved and lived near us for 2 years. They worked with me on a range of projects and again no one picked up on the flirting, which was overt in many cases!
Maybe it's just that I'm friendly and flirty and people just expect.
I've had staff express an interest at times too. Not because they 'discovered' something, just their interest.
I guess your boss isn't as confidential as should be and certainly whomever handed him the 'list' has failed in their duty to keep matters strictly confidential.
Two options:
1. Hang in there, people will get bored of the topic in good time. British love a sex scandal. Most who will snigger are only sniggering because they are jealous of the fact you ARE whilst they only fantasise.
2. Look for a new job. When you do, maybe ask about their view on swinging I did that once and landed a significant digit contract
3. Smile and be open to answer questions. Ignore the sniggering. You never know someone else there might be interested in joining you
I know I said 2 But there is always a 3rd option.
Look if you can honest tell me that in that very same workplace you have never spoken to someone else about the sex lives of other people then you don't deserve the be ridiculed by your work mates and it's totally inappropriate.
However if you have, be it about a story in the newspaper or something you saw in the TV news, or some work mate who 'banged a hot blonde from the pub down the road last week' - then maybe reflect on yourself and the people you work with as to how honest everyone really is.
Honestly doesn't mean telling everyone about your private life, or even answering for it. But it does mean not being the abuser of the very same thing you are crying victim about.

Thanks all!
It did come from the amount of grief I was getting from colleagues about getting a "van"... Which I still actually find difficult to admin!
But was thinking, of those colleagues who know about this side of my life have nothing but envy... and hency the irony of it all.

Careful about becoming paranoid, not every one is talking about you. In fact most people don't give a damn, chances are they were talking about something else and you popped in and broke the flow, ergo the silence. If your swinging most people are probably jealous. |

Jeez, the disgust felt when I read the word "Caravanning"!
The hours spent behind those beige boxes when trying to get to the south coast.
Nightmare.
We've heard that some "caravanners" don't use these mobile homes to meet strangers & friends for sexual activity but actually go on holiday in them!
Shudder at the thought.

I went through so many emotions reading the OP but even more reading some of the replies, just goes to show how reading (and in some cases opening)things properly before replying helps .

We share your shame. We sold our 'van
this year after it was spotted on google earth by a work colleague, the shame was too much. We have gone back to tents, we can hide them in the garage. Some people are so hurtful... We loved our little 'van but it was her or the job, and she didn't pay the bills. We still look at the spot on the drive and weep.... It's too painful now.... |
