Something in the sites software seems to convert the ampersand symbol "&" to amp, so if you type "hot & horny" it might convert to "hot amp horny".
The word ampersand apparently originates from when & was included in the alphabet, when children recited it they would say at the end "and per se and" which got shortened to ampersand.

You will generally see it on statuses and forum titles where the character set is reduced. You'll also get odd text if you try to use smileys in these locations.

Wow, we couldn’t have read that more wrong then!
We interpreted it as amphetamines. Having seen some messages asking for fun amp amp naughtiness we assumed they were writing code for let’s get high and fuck. Similar to 420.
Always thought it was strange how people were so open about it, assuming they must be really keen on the stuff! Apologies for anybody that we steered well clear of thinking you were junkies! |
