I've just recently started drinking more red wine after trying some at a food festival.
I always remember as a kid the red wine was awful, tasted like vinegar and put me off thinking it all tasted the same.
I stick to Malbec and Merlot, plenty of variety to be had, nice easy drinking wine. |

I do like a nice red, but then I like a nice white as well. Or even a good beer or a nice malt, in fact just about any spirit. Damn does that make me a pisshead.......hang on I'm not to keen on Buckfast so I must be ok! |

Glugging wine is a Tempranillo for me. Earthy, honest and full bodied... |

"Love a merlot nice and smooth room temperature
Goout to fractionate between warm and chilled."
You can tell if it's not right temp if you stick Willy in it and if he jumps or swears it's too chilled . |

Wish I could afford the good stuff, enjoy chile merlot, but based on this thread will try Malbec. Tried Tempranillo recently couldn't drink it.
Only thing is goes straight to my head and I get quite flirty when tipsy |

Californian Pinot Noir is a great drop if you like light fruity wines. Those from sonoma are particually nice and affordable in comparison to those from Burgundy. X |

We do enjoy a good bottle of wine. My mood often depends on if I have white of red though.
I do also like a good rosé, but hubbys not a fan so I don't buy it very often x |

REALLY cheap wine tastes awful, but pretty much any Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon or Malbec from the 'New World' at £6+ definitely shouldn't taste like vinegar!
Merlot can be really nice, a bit less full-bodied though and I find some can be a little insipid.
Rioja is popular but I can't deal with the rubbery/vanilla taste of the oak. Tastes like 'headache' to me.
I think there's loads of people who would like red wine but think it's supposed to taste like vinegar and that they don't like it.
Oh, and if it just says 'RED WINE' on the label, walk on! |

"Gets better with age and is well worth laying down.
All wine tastes like bad vinegar to me and the smell of beer and lager make me heave.
Nasty stuff, all of it."
Not likely to be 'Tipsy' Rogers anytime soon then... |

"Can't beat a good bottle of claret!
Personally I love a full bodied Californian Cab of a better quality than your supermarket plonk. "
...Always makes me think of that epic Basil Fawlty quote - "These morons wouldn't know the difference between a claret and a red Bordaux" |

I was d*unk once, back in 1979, never did that again. Once I realised that I was occasionally drinking to stop other people feeling awkward and out of place, I stopped.
My poor dad never could get me to appreciate good quality alcohol and he knew his wine. He tried me with single malts too but that felt like swallowing acid.
I know those of you think that a decent bottle tastes wonderful but it's vinegar to me. |

"Highly recommended one called Jam Shed, eye catching blue label.
Very fruity and full bodied, i get it from tesco but not sure if stocked elsewhere. "
Love the name, am a strong believer in judging books by their label, so will apply the same to wine and go in search of Jam Shed |

I'm still trying to find any wine I can stand to have more than a sip of and not want to spit it out I hate having to buy it for others, I just end up going for which ever has the prettiest label! I am kind of jealous of those who can just drink it, surely there's one out there that I can at least swallow |

For first timers would recommend New Zealand
Pinot Noir, then try say a Cote du Rhone,Valpolcello Ripasso,Portuguese blended red.
Would strongly recommend going to local wine merchant. If not Aldi are amazingly good.
Any more info please get in touch love talking wine(and great sex!) |

"I hate wine, tastes of vinegar to me lol.
Miss"
Horrible, isn’t it. I think there must be a small percentage of the population that have some sort of gene that does that. A bit like my detest of coriander and stevia. |

I know some people have something that makes things like sprouts taste bitter. My brother brought this tasting paper back from school years ago and some in my family thought it tasted bitter and others couldn’t taste anything. The ones who could taste bitterness were the ones who hated sprouts |

"Love red, just not the tat from the supermarket.
Ridiculously snobby statement that

It's suggesting you cannot get good wine from a supermarket which is absolute nonsense. 20 years ago maybe but these days you don't have to go to a merchants to get a decent one |

Indeed. We are both very partial to a nice aged Rioja or a Tempranillo as an alternative. Neither of us really drinks white whine, rosé or sparkling wine. We both prefer heavier and richer in terms of red wine. |

Supermarkets actually got good choices of wines. And some decent wines for like £6-£8
Some of they Chilean and Argentinian wines are good.
So is South African wine.
You don't need to spend a great deal to get a good wine.
Look for the ones that have been awarded silver/gold/plantinum awards.
Even if you don't know wine at all well, I'd defo suggest the wines been given awards |
