So the PC brigade is at it again telling me I cannot renew by text untill they know I am over 18.As a 65 year old man I find this rather insulting and just because I do not have a monthly contract or a credit card, they will not accept debit card,I cannot renew at the moment.I will have to go to a tmobile shop to prove I am legit.Has anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? Cheers Geoff |

Mobile phone service providers have a duty of care and responsibility to protect the Under 18s from accessing adult content over the internet via their mobile phone.
As many children have access to expensive pieces of kit ie smart phones, I- phones, androids, phones which are developed to access the internet easily, then a service provider are keeping to their legal duty by restricting over 18 sites.
If you don't have a contract and haven't registered your phone and don't have a credit card (debit cards are available to under 18s) then the service provider has no idea of your age. By going into their shop they have. Visible e vidence that you aren't, and if you're a young looking 18 you'll be asked to provide proof.
It may be embarrassing and an inconvenience but I'd rather that than children be subjected to adult sites. |

If your worried about asking for the content lock to be lifted, just mention that it blocks online and phone gambling numbers.
Maybe less of a stigma than people thinking your perving porn, lol

What difference is a 3 minute phone call to a txt?
Surely neither proves anything or ami just being blonde?
And when did this new rule come in? I've always subscribed by txt without any problems |

People are not getting confused with updating site supporter in Fab are they. Its nothing to do with that. intermittently mobile phone providers block content from adult sites, any adult sites, not just Fab, and you can't access these sites via the internet on your mobile phone. You have to either go into say an O2 shop and show proof of identity or some may let you do this by phone, if you can prove you're over 18 by phone that is |

As someone who used to take those calls it's easily done. We take your name and address and put into system. It then checks if you are over 18 by a 3rd party company. Not perfect cos little Johnny could be calling using his big brothers details but nothing is ever perfect. |

I thought about lifting the content block on my mobile phone so that I could pay by text, however, I am worried about getting all sorts of unsolicited texts, so I stick with 3min phone call on the landline instead.

Do you pass any numbers on when we text to upgrade? Do you send marketing texts?
NO. We send one upgrade text with your PIN only. Fab doesn't actually receive your number as part of the text upgrade process (if you have upgrade problems and you need us to look into it, we have a secure interface to a system where we can lookup attempted upgrades from a specific number you supply us with, only). Our text partner who handles the billings does not sell or supply your number to 3rd parties either. Your number is never used for marketing texts. This is legally enforcable under the data protection act, and we and our text provider could get fines of hundreds of thousands of pounds if we broke this promise.
Text spammers often target blocks of numbers with a scattergun approach. If you receive spam text, you should ALWAYS report it to PhonePayPlus, the premium text regulator. They can force text spammers to close down their operations and apply large fines. They can also help you understand how your number came to be spammed. They have a form on their homepage where you can enter a premium text number and check the people operating it (including customer service numbers).
Complain to PhonePayPlus the premium text regulator
Goto their homepage and check a number

To the OP....I am not sure what being PC has to do with trying to make sure over 18's are the only ones using the site.
As others have said, it is your phone provider that is blocking your text, so you need to ask them to unblock adult sites. |

it could well be that there is an adult content block on the phone... so it wouldn't just be fab swingers.. it could have been paddy power for example..
all you need to do is just go into a shop or give them some details and they would remove the block for you...
its nothing about being PC at all....., before are just ridiculous for throwing out terms like that.... |

It doesn't affect everyone, it is done to you line provider
Only had to get content block removed the first time - it is nothing to do with FABS |
